UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIOE.
ANDREW B. MOORE, OF MIDDLESBORO, KENTUCKY.
PENHOLDER.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW B. MOORE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Middlesboro, in the county of Bell, State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Penholders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in pen holders and more particularly to pen holders of the self ejecting yp The invention aims as a primary object to provide a pen holder in which novel pen releasing means are included, such means specifically residing in a pivoted lever having a handle portion foldable into a recess formed in the stock of the pen holder.
The details of construction will appear in the course of the following description in which reference is had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, like characters of reference designating similar parts throughout the several views, wherein,
Figure l is an elevation of a pen holder constructed in accordance with the present invention. Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal sectional view thereof showing the engagement of the lever with the pen. Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the manner of releasing the pen. Fig. 4 is a front elevation of the pen holder. Fig. 5 is a section on the line 5-5 of Fig. 2, looking in the direction of the arrow.
In the accompanying drawings, the numeral 4 designates the stock or handle, which carries at one end a metallic sleeve 5 formed at one side thereof with an elongated recess 6, which is normally closed by the handle portion 7 of a clamping lever 8. The lever 8 is formed at one end thereof with a working portion 9 having a curved gripping edge 10, and said lever at the junction of the portions 7 and 9 is provided with outwardly extending lugs 11 which are engaged as pivots Specification of Letters Patent.

through openings in the sleeve 5 adjacent the front end thereof. The sleeve 5 surrounds the reduced front end portion 12 of the han dle 4 and the pen is held upon said reduced portion by means of the lever 8. Said handle 4 adjacent said reduced portion is formed with a recess 13 in which and the recess 6 the handle portion 7 is normally disposed, the recess 13 extending rearwardly a greater distance than the portion 7 and having its rear wall inclined forwardly and downwardly as at 14 so as to cooperate with the inclined rear edge face 15 of the portion 7 in affording a substantial notch into which the thumb nail is inserted in manipulating the lever 8, the thumb nail being engaged under the inclined face 15 as is shown by dotted lines in Fig. 2.
It will be apparent that by raising the handle portion 7, the working portion 9 is moved re'arwardly and upwardly so as to disengage the pen and allow the latter to drop by gravity from the sleeve 5. The portion 17 in its normal position is flush with the sleeve 5 and the handle 4 and by not projecting, will not accidentally catch and release the pen when the latter is in use.
What is claimed is In combination, a handle portion, a metallic sleeve carried at one end thereof and formed with a longitudinal recess extending from its front edge, said handle portion having a reduced end disposed in said sleeve, a clamping lever pivotally mounted in said sleeve and having a working portion for engagement with the pen and a handle portion fitting in said recess, said first 1n entionedhandle ortion having a recess to receive said second handle portion, the rear wall of said recess being spaced away from the rear wall of said second handle portion, said second handle portion having its rear face inclined as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
, ANDREW B. MOORE.
