To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, Vroron VON ALPEN- rune and LOUISE VON ALPENBURG, citizens of the United States, residing in West Hoboken, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Skin-Preserving Coverings, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improved covering for reserving and improving the condition of t e skin of the face, neck, hands and other exposed parts, and to heal injuries to the same, remove wrinkles and restore the skin to an improved and healthy condition;

and for this purpose the invention consists of a skin-preserving device which comprises three layers, an interior layer formed of the core of a Chinese palm-tree, and an intermediate layer of the same material which is impregnated with a medicinal substance for restoring and preserving the skin of the exposed parts of the body, and an exterior reinforcing layer of a textile fabric.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a front-view of a skin-preserving covering made according to our invention in the nature of a face-covering or mask, Fig. 2 is a front-view of the covering in the shape of a half-mask, and Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on line 3, 3, Fig. 1.

In making our improved device for preserving and treating the skin of the ex osed parts of the body, such as the face, nec and the hands, we employ thin layers that are obtained from a Chinese palm known by the botanical name of Aralia papyr'ifem, a material which is also used extensively in the manufacture of artificial flowers. These layers are carefully treated before use by first subjecting them to the hot vapors of alcohol and then rendering them pliable by a 4 glycerin-solution.

Our skin-preserving device consists of a thin continuous interior layer a of the palmcore, an exterior layer (1 of a textile fabric,

referably silk, and a thin intermediate -5O ayer b of the palm-core which is treated with a medicament desired for preserving the skin.

The skin-preserving layer may be made in the form of a maskor half-mask when used for the face, or in the shape of a bandage, when used for the forehead, neck or hands, the exterior reinforcing layer (1 permitting the attachment of bands or other fastening devices to the mask bandage or other covering.

When the covering. is applied to the exposed fparts of the skin, such as the upper part 0 the face, neck, hands etc., the skinpreserving or restoring substance with which the intermediate layer is saturated, is transmitted through the pores of the interior layer a tothe skin in the quantity required. .The interior layer is soft and pleasant to the skin and possesses almost the same degree of flexibility as the natural skin, so that the covering is not disagreeable and objectionable when placed on the part to be treated. The covering can be applied for various sanitary, healing and hygienic purposes; also in smaller pieces, in the nature of plasters, for the healing of sores and wounds by varying the medicament with which the intermediate layer is impregnated. As the layers of palm-core are treated with a solution of glycerin they retain their softness and pliability for a considerable length of time, so that the covering can be used at any time without getting stiff, brittle and objectionable to the skin.

The advantages of our improved skin-preserving covering are that the skin is restored to its natural healthy condition, that facewrinkles can be removed or softened to a great extent, and that sore or injured parts of the skin can be healed in a quick and effective manner.
