l BOTTLE.
specification of peti-.ers Patent.
' Patented Sept. 1, 1908.
Application led March 5, 1908. Srial No. 419,336. 4
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE P. DENNIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Muncie, in the county of Delaware and State of Indiana, have invented certain .new and useful Improvements in Bottles; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and eX-.
act descri tion ofthe invention, such as will i enable'ot ers skilled in the art to which it ap ertains to make and use the same.
y invention relates to bottles, particularly to bottles of opaque material such as paper or the like.
The object of the invention is to provide a bottle of this character which will have means'whereby the contents may be inspected to ascertain their condition, or the amount in the bottle.
A further object isl to provide a paper bottle with a strip of non-frangible transparent material so that the bottle may be handled without eXtreme care and the contents always visible.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is an elevation; Fig. 2 is a vertical section and Eig. 3 is a transverse section. v
Referring more especially to the drawings, 1 represents the body of a milk bottle having the usual neck 2 With the cap 3 seated u on an annular shoulder therein. The bo y 1 and neck 2 are referably made of paper made watr-proo by any suitable process. This generally makes the paper more opaque so that it is impossible to see through it at all. To overcome this objection, I form a longitudinal slot 4 inathe side of the bottle and close the opening by a strip of mica, celluloid, isin lass, paraiiined paper, or any other materia 5., which is non-frangible and non-opar ue. cThis stri may be secured to the bott e in any suita le mannen I have shown it secured to the bottle by strips 6 which are cemented to the body by any liquid-proof cement, butl I do not wish to be limited to this form as many other methods may be employed.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the vaccompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood Without re uiring a more extended explanation.
arious changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to Without departing from the :principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention, as defined in the appended claims. i
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let? 1. In a liquid receptacle comprising an o aque body, a non-o aque and non-frangib e strip set in said ody, .and reinforcing members secured over the edge of said strips.
2. A liquid receptacle comprising a vertically slotted opa ue paper body, a strip .of transparent non- 'rangib e material secured vertically to said body to cover the slot and reinforcing members cemented over the edges of said strips.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
GEORGE P. DENNIS.
