Description

PATENTED AUG. 11, 1908.
E. L. MQDEVITT. HOSE SUPPORTER.
APPLICATION FILED APR.20,1905.
I/Vl/E/VTOH E 1:. 1227;260:115.
ATTORNEYS EDWARD L. MCDEVITT, OF BINGHAMTON, NEW YORK.
HOSE-SUPPORTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
' Patented Aug. 11, 1908.
Application filed April 20, 1905. Serial No. 256,611.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD L. McDEvrrr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Binghamton, in the county of Broome and at a convenient point, below the knee and by -means of which the hose can be properly supported and the necessity of elastic bands or straps encircling the leg, entirely avoided.
Hose supporters or garters embodying an elastic band or strap in their construction, soon become impaired and in order to maintain them in their proper position, it becomes necessary to adjust them to such an extent that they are bound too closely about the leg. This objection is entirely avoided by means of the construction shown herein and described.
Another object of my invention is to provide a device in which various vertical adjustments ca a be had.
With these objects in view, my invention consists essentially in the employment of an inelastic strap or tape adapted to be connected to the drawers leg and having a clasp adjustably connected thereto, which clasp is adapted to engage the hose or stocking to be supported.
The invention consists also in the details of construction hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claim In the drawings forming a part of this specification:Figure 1 is a perspective view showing practical application of my invention. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of the supporting tape or strap with the attaching tape or strap connected thereto. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the clasp. Fig. 4 is a sectional view showing the relative position of the clasp and tape or strap.
It will of course be understood that I employ a hose supporter for each stocking, and a description of one device, will suffice for both.
In constructing a device in accordance with my invention, I preferably employ a strip A, of tape or other suitable fabric and which I designate as the attaching stri inasmuch as this strip is attached to the rawers leg as shown in Fig. 1, at any convenient point below the knee and preferably upon the inner side of the leg. A supporting tape or strap B, is connected to the attaching strap or tape A, as shown at A, said tapes A and B being preferably arranged at a right angle to each other as most clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2 and the tape or strap B, has a series of button holes B, made therein in order to provide for the adjustment of the clasp C, which has a button 0, adapted to engage one of the series of button holes B the hose or stocking being gripped in the V-sha ed gripping portion C The clasp C, is s otted as shown at 0 just below the button C, and through which the free end of the tape B, is adapted to be passed as most clearly shown in Fig. 4 so that the said free end will not in- -mode of attachment may be employed. By
having a series of button holes B, it is obvious that the clasp can be adjusted upon the tape B in order to accommodate long and short hose.
It will thus be seen that I provide an exceedingly cheap simple and efficient form of hose supporter which will entirely overcome all the objectionable features of the elastic encircling band or strap.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A hose supporter comprising an attaching strip adapted to be connected to an under garment, a su porting tape depending from said strip, sai supporting tape having a plurality of button holes, a clasp comprising a gripping portion adapted to engage a stocking and a button to engage the supporting tape, the clasp being slotted for passage of the tape.
