To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES T. BLooMER7 a citizen of the United States, residing at- Nevvark, in the county of Wayne and State of New York, have invented a new and use- `ful Paper Vessel, oi which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to paper receptacles andmore particularly to that class of receptacles especially designed for carrying oysters and other liquid or semiliquid substances. The object of the invention is to provide a pail or receptacle the'side walls of which are provided with vertically disposed bail su -orting ears which extend above the to d ines at the top or cover of the pail thereby to prevent leakage .of the contents of said receptacle.

A further object of the invention is to reduce the size of the pail and thus effect a saving in stock without diminishing the carrying capacity of the pail, this result beine accomplished by arranging the receiving bai o enings above the fold lines of the cover so t at the pail may be filled to the cover line.

A further object is to arrange the terminals or" the supportmg bail in suoli a manner that when lthe cover of the ail is moved to open position, said cover wil form a housing for the bail supporting ears and terminals of the bail and thus permit a lurality of said pails to be compactly nesterl without liability of the terminals of the bail of one pail cuttingJ puncturing or otherwise mutilatmg the walls of an adjacent ail.

A further object is to form the reinforcing wings of the side Walls with locking flaps adapted to be folded downwardlyin engage ment with said wings thereby to assist in retaining the Win s in engagement with the adjacent side wa ls of the pail.

'A still further object of the invention is to generally im rove this class of devices so as vto increase t eir utility, durability and elliciency. l

Further objects and advantages will appear in the following description, it being understood that various changes in forni, proportions and minor details of construction may be resorted to within the scope of the ap ended claims.

The improved pail or receptacle forming the subject matter of the present inventionis preferably constructed from a paper o." card-board blank of the coniiguration shown in Fig'. 3 of the drawing, and consists of a bottom section' having converging side and end walls 6 and 7, there being corner folds 'e and 9 connecting the'side walls (tand theend walls 7 and constituting reinforcing wings when the blank is folded to forni thc box or receptacle.

By arranging the bail supporting cars above the lold lino of the cover sections the 'pail may be lilled to the cover leakage point,

The corner folds or Wings Q are each provided with a terminal liap 21 adapted to be folded laterally and downwardly on the line 22 into engagement with the inner face of the adjacent Wing 8 so as to lock said wings in engagement with each other and thus permit the same to be readily fastened to the adjacent side walls of thevreceptacle.

In assembling the pail the side walls G are folded inwardly on the lines 23 and the corner folds or Wings S folded on the lines 24 and thence folded laterally on the side wails or panels vso as to form a receptacle similar to that shown in Fig. l of the drawing, the terminals 25 of the supporting bail being subsequently passed through the apertures 19 in the ears i8, as will be readily understood.

After the side Walls of the blank are folded AWings 9 are. folded laterally and downwardly 1n engagement with the corner folds or Wings ,8, the Wings S being'subsequently pasted7 glued, stapled or otherwise rigidly secured to the adj aeent side Walls 6 of the receptacle soy as to firmly secure the box in set up or assembled position.

Attention is here called to the fact that by folding the looking flaps 2i downwardly in engagement with the wings said wings are effectually combined so to permit the saine to be readily and permanently attached to the side Walls of the receptacle. It will also be observed that by extending the ears 18 vertically above 'the fold lines of the cover of the receptacle the liquid is effectually prevented from leaking through the apertures 1Q while by reason of the location of the terminals of the bail, when the outer cover sections ll. and l2 are moved to open posi* tion they form housings for the ears and terminals of the bail so to permit several of said pails to be compas-tlv nested n-ithout liability of the pointed terminal of one bail cutting, piercing or otherwise mutilating the walls of an adjacent pail.

From the foregoing descrip tion it is thought that the construction and operation of the device will be'readily understood by those skilled in the art and further description thereof is deemed umiecessary.

Having thus described the invention what is claimed is:

l. pa ier receptacle provided with a cover and having its side walls formed with reinforcing 'wings thc ends of which are ex tended above the fold lines of the cover and over-lapped to form bail supporting ears having perforations formed therein and adapted to register with each other, a bail pivotally mounted in said perforations, and locking iiaps formed integral with the wings and disposed on opposite sides of each bail supporting ear and adapted to be folded downwardly between said Wings and the adjacent side walls of the receptacle.

2. A paper receptacle having main and auxiliary covers and having its side walls provided with reinforcing wings, the upper ends of which are extended vertically-above the fold lines of the cover and over-lapped to fornr pivoted bail supporting ears, and locking flaps formed integral `Vith the wings and disposed one on each side of the ears, said flaps being foldable downwardly between said wings and the adjacent side walls of the receptacle.
