UNITED FRANK JONES, OF SORANTON, PENNSYLVANIA.
FIRE-BRICK CLAMP AND STOVE-'IOP BRACE.
Specification of Lett ers Patent.
Patented March 31, 1908.
Application filed March 22, 1907i. Serial No. 363,824.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK JONES, a resident of Scranton, in the county of Lackawanna and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fire-Brick Clamps and Stove-Top Braces g and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improved fire brick clamp and stove top brace, the object of the invention being to provide an adjustable or extension clamp of this character which can be used on almost any stove, which will securely clamp the fire brick and support the cross bar beneath the stove top, which can be manufactured and sold at small cost, and which will be strong and durable in` use.
With these objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
-In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view in section through a stove illustrating the application of my improvements, the dotted lines showing positions to which the parts may be adjusted from the positions shown in full lines, and Figs. 2 and 3 are detail views of the device detached.
1 represents the fire boX of a stove, 2 the oven, 8 the stove top, and 5 represents the lire brick lining in the nre box 1 between the fire boX and oven 2, and which is secured in place by my improved device, now to be described.
The device comprises a bar 6, having a downwardly turned lip 7 at one end' to engage over the face of the fire brick, and this bar 6 is made with an elongated slot 7 in which a screw or bolt 8 is located. The screw or bolt 8 projects through an opening in the oven top, has a head 9 at its upper end, and screws into a nut 10 at its lower end, in the oven, to secure the device in position.
An angle bar 11, located on bar 6, is provided with an elongated longitudinal slot 12 in its horizontal member, to receive the screw or bolt 8, to clamp the angle bar 11 at any adjustment on bar 11, according to the position of the cross bar or brace 4 beneath the stove top. The vertical member of angle bar 11, is made with a longitudinal slot 18,
I to receive a screw or bolt 14, the latter located inl an opening in bar 15, and a nut 16 is located on the screw or bolt 14, to clamp the bar 15 at various vertical adjustments. This bar 15 is preferably enlarged at its upper end, to afford a wide bearing for the cross bar or brace 4 to rest upon, and the upright member of angle bar 11 is made with fianges 17 at its side edges, between which the bar 15 is located, and these flanges 17 prevent any pivotal movement of bar 15 on bar 11 and insure the parts remaining as adjusted.
The bar 15 and upright member of'angle bar 11, constitute a vertically adjustable post to support the cross bar or brace 4 of the stove and as bar 11 can be adjusted longitudinally on bar 6, the post can be positioned to support the cross bar or brace 4 in any ordinary construction of stove.
The screw or bolt 8, therefore not only serves to clamp bar 6 at the proper adjustment to secure the lire brick in place, but also clamps the post at various adjustments according to the location of the cross bar or brace 4, and the device can be quickly applied or removed by any one of average intelligence.
A great many slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of the parts described without departing from my invention, and hence, I do not restrict myself to the precise details set forth but consider myself at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of my invention.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new anddesire to secure by Letters- Patent is 1. In a device of the character described, the combination of a bar constructed to clamp a fire brick in place, a stove top supporting plate mounted upon said bar, and means for effecting an adjustment of said part longitudinally of said bar.
the combination of a bar constructed to clamp a re brick in place, a top supporting lpost mounted upon said bar, means for effecting vertical adjustment of said post, and means for effecting adjustment of said post on the bar longitudinally of the latter.
3. In a device of the character described, the combination of a bar constructed to clamp a fire brick in place, a stove top supporting post provided at its lower end With a 2. In a device of the character described,
securing the post longitudinally of the bar.
horizontal portion resting upon said bar, and means adjustably securing the horizontal portion of the post to said bar.
4. In a device of the character described, the combination of a bar constructed to clamp a fire brick in place, a stove top supporting post comprising two members, .one adjustable vertically relatively tothe other, the lower member of said post having a horizontal lportion resting upon said bar, and means securing said horizontal portion of the post to said bar and permitting adjustment of the same longitudinally of the bar.
5. In a device of the character described, the combination of a bar having a lip at one end to engage a fire brick, means permitting longitudinal adjustment of said bar on the oven top of a stove, a stove-top supporting post mounted upon said bar, and means permitting adjustment of said post upon the bar longitudinally of the latter.
6. In a device of the character described, the combination with a bar constructed to clamp a fire brick in place, a stove top supporting post made in two sections adjustably secured together, and means for adjustably ing lip at one end and made with a longitudinal slot, of an angle bar having slots in both its horizontal and vertical members, a clampklire box, an oven, a top and a cross bar beneath the top, of a clamping bar adjustably secured to the oven and securing the fire brick in the .iire box, and apost adjustably secured on the clamping bar and located lbeneath the cross baroi the stove top.
' -10. In a device of thevcharacter described, the combination with a brick securing bar, an angle bar adjustably secured thereon, side flanges on lthe vertical member of the angle bar, a bar or post against the vertical member of the angle bar and itting between the flanges, and a clamping bolt or screw located in an opening in the last-mentioned bar and in a slot in the vertical member of the angle bar, and a nut on-said screw or bolt.
11. In a device of the character described, the combination of an adjustable fire brick clamping member and a stovetop supporting member.
12. In a device of the character described the combination of an adjustable .member provided with a fire brick clamping part and a stove top supportingmember adjustable with respect `to said part.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specication in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
