Description

UNITED STATES ANDERSON C. HECK, OF I"NBLA`1',-OHO.
DITCHING-W'HEL.
I tion is to provide means whereby the buckets of such a wheel will be automatically selfclearing.
When ditching wheels are o erated in sticky, claA ey soil, much troube is occasioned by t e fact that the soil carried up by the buckets sticks to them and is not dis-- charged at the proper timeupon the elevator apron; and the object of my invention is to o viate this difficulty.
With this object in view, my invention consists in the construction and combination of arts7 as hereinafter described and claimed.
n the accompanying drawings: Figure 'l represents a side elevation of a ditching` w my invention, one of the Fig. 2 is a eel involvin buckets being s own in section.
sectional View on the line 2-2 of" Fig. A1, and
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the scraper.
a indicates t e ordinary frame supporting the wheel. The ditching lwheel c is mounted between the two parallel beams a upon pulleys d, mounted on a braced frame e. frapresents-one of the pulleys of the conveyer a ron, and g a part of the driving gear. All
o these arts are of the usual construction. i The dite ing wheel is also provided with the cutters h, located on the frame ofthe wheel, outside ofthe buckets. made larger than the Asmaller ends of the buckets and bend in'toward the center of the Wheel, forming stops for the buckets.
The buckets 'i are secured kto the rim b of the Wheel c, which rimalso carries the cutters h. Eachbucket has a bottom chinged i thereto. r1 his bottom may extend to the rim of the wheel -or to a lesser distance, as desired.
On the two parallel eye-beams a is carried a stout wire frame l, movably mounted on ivots m carried by said eye-beams. s ame extends upwardly and bent in, as

Having thus described my invention, ciaim:
l. The combination of ditching having buckets thereon, a supporting traine for said wheel and a scraper consisting i' 'the frame iprovidcri with viivots, bent pc and the loop o inouiite on said x adapted, as the wheel revolves, to f the dirt 'from the interior of the be cessivoly, substantially as describe l 2. The combination of a d i having buckets thereon, open each bucket being rovided with a pi bottom at one en( thereof, a sup frame for said wheel, and a scraper" mounted on said frame, substantially scribed.
3. The combination of'aditc rovided with buckets th buckets being provided a supporting a mounted on said fraise and l tact with the botten i o; I g cessively, and moans for ioiding said scr l t yieldingly against the bottom of s aid buckets as the wheel revolves, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature,
