Description

"UNITED sTATEs PATENT OFFICE- REINHARDSOHMIEDEL, OF DRESDEN', GERMANY.
men) COMPOSITION TO BE USED IN THE MANUFACTURE or I PAPERS.
FANCY STAINED Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 24,1908.
Application filed May 19, 1904. Serial No. 208,660.
' the Manufacture of Fancy Stained Papers,
of which the following is a specification. I, In the manufacture of fancy stained papers the pattern of which corresponds to the-primary paint applied to the paper and comes out by a darker tone only, it was necessary heretofore to use a paint to produce such' arker tone. In most cases many attempts or-tests were necessary to secure the tone suitable for the purpose, such attempts or tests causing a great waste-of time, especially if the paint must be produced by mixing.
The composition which is the subject of the present invention has for its object to, dispense with the use of 'paint in the pro duction of patterns of the kind mentioned above, ,to economize or spare time and also to secure-an image of a more brilliant and clearer color. i
I The composition can be used for stained paper of any kind, no matter whether its surface is dead or brilliant, pressed orsmooth.
- Dead paper does not become brilliant by its use and a brilliant one does not become dead or subduc d and the smooth and pressed surface of the paper is maintained and the-brilliancy of glazed, bronze or mica papers is not altered.
The composition which is in liquid form is used in combination with or during applying the pattern to the aper rovide'd with the rimary color, suc app ein effected by a-mold, brush or any other suita le means. sists of the solution of a moist colorless substance or agent, which after evaporating of the solvent adheres as a precipitate to the fibers of the paper and acts on paint adhering to such paper b T darkening.
The compositio'nconsists mainly of a diluted and easily drying mixture nary temperatureof an agglutinant soluble at the ordie 1n water or alcohol with alcohol and water. may be glue, gumarabic, dextrin or the like.
The denaturization of the alcohol maybe soap, oil, glycerin,
'effected by wood-alcohol, shellac, camphor,
turpentine, formalin, animal-oil, benzene,
petroleum-benzin, castor-oil, soda-lye or various salts.
ying or covering This liquid or mixture conthe primary The said agglutinant According to the value or importance v the tones to be obtained in all primary colors.
30 grams glue,
40 gum-arabic, 1 0 glycerin, 4O dextrin, 40 alcohol, 30 soap, 60 water, or
30 grams deXtrin, 30 glue, 30 tannin, 30 alcohol, 3O soap, 30 water, I 30 glycerin, or
50 grams gum-juniper, 20 glue,
10 glycerin, s0 soa 10 tur (GY-I'Gd oil, 50 alcohol, 80 water 30 grams fish-glue, 20 tannin, 30 glue, 30 resin from fruit-trees, 5O soap, 50 alcohol with the addition of 25 grams colophony, 8O water i 50 grams gum dragon,
3O casein, 30 gum-arabic, 50 alcohol, 50 deXtrin, ;30 .soap,
7O water, 50 oil.
- employment of the clearest degree of strength which maybe obtained by using the agglutinative substances, as deX-' and the like in greater quan-t' trin, glue, resin tities, orthe addition 4 of water may be a greater one if the tone to be produced shall be of greater or smaller brilliancy.
By the use of the object of the present invention it is possible to obtain, even with the warmest colors for instance turkey-red, cherry-red etc. with the paint a warm tone-shadow, whichfoannot be obtained by means of other processes. Furthermore in stained patterns printed on pa er or by lithography and in another suitab e mechanical manner it is ossible to pro-' duce each tone-shadow wit in the tones created by the transfer of an effect in each and to the brighter or darker colorfinished image, as for instance in flowers the rimary ncolors red, blue, green, yellow can 9 shadowed simultaneously and at once with the use of the paints according to the present invention.
What I-claim isP- A liquid composition to be used inthe manufacture of stained paper consisting of a diluted and easily drying mixture of an a 30 glutinant' soluble in water or alcohol wit soap, oil, glycerin, alcohol and water, 'substantially as herein described.
In testimony, that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed 'my name in 35 resence of two, witnesses, this seventh day of REINHARD SCHMIEDEL.
