Be it known that I, EUGENE D. CHELLIs, 1 of Portland, in the county of Cumberland and State of Maine, have inyented certain new and useful Improvements in Closures for Containing Vessels, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to closures for ves sels; and particularl to a closure adapted to be applied to stoc vessels subject to :frequent opening but required to be kept tigb tly sealed when closed. 1 5

In devices of this sort it is desirable .that the closure fit the. mouth of the vessel tightly and when closed that it be locked. on the mouth in such a way that' it will stand any outward strain tending to force it off.

What I therefore claim and desire'to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. A device of the class described consisting of a plate, means for engaging the mouth of avessel internally, a cover pivoted to said plate. and adapted to be swung laterally thereon, and means on said cover to engage Patented March IY, 1908.

2. A device of the class described consisting of a plate, a depending flange for engaging the mouth ofa .vessel internally, acover pivoted to said lplate and adapted to be swung laterally t ereon, and means on said cover to engage an exterior shoulder on a vessel neck when in closed position.

3. Adevice of the class described consisting of a plate having a central opening therein, a depending ange for engaging the ngouth of a vessel internally, a cover-pivoted to said plate and adapted to be swung laterally thereon, and means on said cover to engage an exterior shoulder on a vessel neck when in closed osition.

A, closure 'or a containing vessel having a shoulder about its mouth comprising a cap consisting of a plate having a central opening therein, a depending flange for engaging the mouth of the vessel internally, a packing between said flange and the interior of the vessel mouth, a cover pivoted to said plate and adapted to be swung laterally thereon, and a lip on said cover to engage the shoulder when in a closed position.
