To all 'inkom it may concer-nv:
Be it known that I, 'WESLEY IIYRE, citi- 'zen of the United States, residing at Stroh, in the count-y of Lagrange and State of Indiana, have invent-ed'eertain new and use- 'ful Improvements in Harrows, of which the following is a 'specificatiom This invention has for its object an iniprovedtractoinaotuated harrow, and the invention consists 1n certain constructions and arrangements of theparts that I shall hereinafter fully describe 'and claim;
For a full understanding of the invention reference is to' be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation illustrating my improved harrow' and traction engine. to
`provided with forwardly converging por-l which it is connected: Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof; and, Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the trac-tion engine employed.
Corresponding and Vlike parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
The traction engine shown in connection with my harrow embodies rear traveling Wheels 1, front traveling wheels 2, and a main framework 3 supported by said wheels. The franiework comprises the two longitudinally extending I-bea-ms i which are tions 5 to which the rear ends of the arched bars 6 are connected. These bars 6 meet at their forward ends andare supported on 4a steering post 7 of the front traveling wheels', said post being journaled in the upper end of the transversely arched yoke 8 supported on the shaft of the front traveling wheels 2. A toothed segment 9 is secured by the angle bars 10 to the yokeS and lies in a horizontal lane as s hown with its teeth facing rearward y, the said teeth of the segment meshing with a pinion 11 secured on with a hand wheel 1-1.
'15 designates a guide member for the segment 9, said member being suspended from the bars 16 riveted orotherwise secured to the arched bars 6 and abutting against the l 'specification of netters Patent.

upperface of the segment, so as to hold the same in a true horizontal plane.
The vehicle may be propelled by any desired form of steam or gasolene engine, or
other prime mover, the same being omitted from the drawings as itis no part of the present invention. The driving shaft of such engine may be connected to the countershaft 17 by the sprocket 18 or similar gearing. The shaft 17 is journaled in two intermediate longitudinal I-beanis 4a forming parts of tlie framework and connected at their front ends to the brace bars 19, said bars being connected in turn to the arched bars 6, as clearly illustrated in the top plan view of the drawings.- The shaft 17 carries sprockets QO'at its ends, said sprockets be.- ing connected by the sprocket chains 21 with. the chain wheels 22 secured bylclips or any other suitable fastening devices to the respective rear traveling wheels 1.
23 designates tensioning idlers chain.
My improved harrow is arranged aslant as shown, and the disks 3Q thereof will all cut the same way, side 'draft being eliminated by the weight of the traction engine. The disks 30 are mounted on a shaft 31 which is journaled in the laterally tapering framework 32. This framework is provided atits ends with vertical braces 33 and oblique braces 34, the latter forming parts of or connected to the trailing arms 35 that are swung from the outer ends of the main axle 1a.
In order to raise and lower the harrow, the rear cross bar of the harrow frame 32 is provided with an eye 36 receiving the hooked end of a link rod 3T. The upper end of this rod is connected to one arm of a bell crank lever 3S fulcrumed on the rear transverse I-beam 13a of the framework 3. To the other arm of the lever, a link 39 is connected, said link being also connected at its front for the end tothe hand lever -10 arranged for locking engagement with the duadrant 11. Obviously, by manipulating the lever 40, the harrow may be raised and lowered.
42 designates a chain which may assist in supporting the harrow in'its proper osition and which is designed to engage a ook 43 secured to the rear cross bar 13a of the framework.
