Be it known that I, JOHN P. SmMoNs, of Schoolcrait, in the county of Kalamazoo, and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Combined Water-Heater and IVashng-lvlachine; and I do declare that the following is a true and accurate description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, andto the letters of reference marked thereon, and being a part of this specification, in which-,

The nature of myinveution cousistsiu a movable frame placed within the body of the washing-machine, and having a perforated bottom, which frame can be lowered into or raised out `of' the water by suitable means, so that the clothes which lie iu the frame can be subjected to the action of a wriuger attached `to the machine when frame E is raised.

To accomplish this purpose, I construct a proper frame, A, in which I place a tank, B, in the lower part of which is secured the water-tight heater and ue G', terminating in a pipe, D, for carrying away the smoke.

By making a fire in the stove G, the surrounding water in the tank is quickly broughtA to the boilingpoint, eiecting a greatsaviug in boiling the fabrics in a separate vessel, andin handling them.

E is a movable frame, provided with a perforated bottom, F, and rollers G, the whole fitting leasily into the tank B, and secured therein by a wedge, I.

H are standards, carrying guide-rollers, aud erected on one end of the movable frame E.

J is a guide under the opposite end of the tank,`,

In washing with this apparatus, there should be suiiicieut water in the tank to cover the rollers G; and when the fabrics are cleansed, by withdrawing the wedge I, and raising the movableiiiaule-E abm'e thev water, which is done by throwing down 'the cams O, provided for that purpose, as shown in fig. 1, the water may be wrung or squeezed out of them, by subjecting them to the action of the rub-board N and rollers G.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

l. The movable-frame E, Wedge I, .cams O, standards H, reciprocating rod M, lever L, guide J, and piu K,-substantially as herein described and for the purposes specied.

2. The combination and arrangement ofthe abovenamed parts with the frame A, tank B, perforated plates F, rollers G, and rub-board N, when constructed, arranged, and operating substantially as herein described and for the purposes specified.
