WATCH BEZEL. APPLICATION FILED 11.13.1907.
51 vwewtoz co., WASHING1ON, n. c.
rnmuonms PETERS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GOY G. LLOYD, OF DONALDSON, MINNESOTA.
WATCH-BEZEL.
Application filed March 13, 1907.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Gov G. LLOYD, a citizen of United States, residing at Donaldson, in the county of Kittson, State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Watch-Bezels and I do here y declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention has relation to bezels for watch-cases, and bezels of the kind that hold the crystal or glass in place bya follower pressing against the inner side of the margin of the crystal, in contradistinction to the class in which the crystals are snapped into a groove in the bezel, which groove forms a set for the edge of the glass.
It is the object of my invention to rovide improvements that will enhance the e Iiciency of the bezel, simplify its construction and mode of employment, so that it can be more readily and easily manufactured and used, and so that the glass can be securely held in place and more safely and quickly set and removed.
The nature of the invention may be fully ascertained from the device portrayed in the annexed drawings, forming a part of this specification, in view of which it will first be described with respect to its construction and mode of employment, and then be pointed out in the subjoined claim.
Of the said drawings-Figure 1 is a sectional view taken through a complete watch case and its bezel and glass, thebezel and glass being represented as detached from the ring. Fig. 2 is a central sectional view of the glass detached. Fig. 3 is a central sectional view of the follower forming a part of the bezel, detached. Fig. 4 is a central sectional view of the outer or body part of the bezel, detached. Fig. 5 is a central sectional view of a watch case embodying my improvements, and showing the casing of the works in elevation supported therein.
Similar numerals of reference designate similar parts or features, as the case may be, wherever they occur.
In the drawings 10 designates the face-rim which is also the main or body portion of the bezel, having an inwardly extended beveled ledge, 11, on its outer edge which forms a seat for the beveled margin 12 of the crystal or glass 13. The said rim 10 has its inner Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 362,122.
portion screw threaded as at 14, and the outer portion is offset inward at 15, and said offset part is also internally screw-threaded, as at 16.
17 designates the follower, which is eX- ternally screwthreaded to adapt it to be turned into the outer screw-threaded portion 14 of the rim 10 and to bear against the inner margin of the crystal 13 seated or resting on the beveled led e 11, and hold it in place thereon. The fo llower 17 is beveledfrom its inner side outward so as to reduce the extent of the Width of its bearing on the glass, which it is desirable should be narrow. The outer portion of the rim 10, provided with the beveled ledge 11, with the follower 17 constitutes the bezel.
18 designates the ring of the watch-ease, or case center, which is offset at 19, and the said offset part is eXtenally-screw threaded, as shown, to enable it to have the screwthreaded portion 16 of the rim 10 turned thereon. The offset art 19 is internally offset at its outer margin forming a ledge 23. The rear rim or back-cap 24 is screwed upon an offset part 25 of the ring 18.
In use the glass 13 will be placed in position on its seat 11 from the inside of the rim 10, and the follower 17 will be turned into place against it, as shown in Fig. 1, thus securing the crystal in position in the bezel part of the rim 10. Wlth the rim 24 in place on the rear of the ring 18, the casing 20 containing the works and bearing the dial or face of the watch may be laced in position therein with the rim 26 o the works-casing resting on the ledge 23. (See Fig. 5). After this, the rim 10 may have its screw-threaded part 16 turned on the externally screwthreaded offset 19 of the ring until the upper surface of the rim 26 comes to bear against the inner surface 21 of the follower, thus locking the latter in place, so that it cannot be unintentionally turned back and loosen the crystal in the bezel. This is an important feature of the invention.
What is claimed is A watch case and bezel comprising the outer rim and main part of the bezel, having a larger and a smaller screw-threaded offset and provided with a beveled seat for the glass, the glass resting at its mar in on said beveled seat, a follower outwardly beveled at its outer margin, screwed into said smaller offset and bearing at its outer edge on the extreme margin of the glass, the ring or casecenter rovided with an external screw- In testimony whereof, I aflix my signathreade offset to adapt it to be turned into ture, in presence of two witnesses. the larger ofiset of the outer rim, and having an internal offset 23, combined with the GOY G. LLOYD. casing for the watch-works provided with a Witnesses: rim resting on the said offset 28 and bearing P. M. MGENRAE,
against the inner side of the follower. GEO. O. LLOYD.
