Description

PATENTED FEB. 25, 1908.
M. P. FORAN. DEVELOPING TRAY.
APPLICATION FILED PEB.14. 1907.
W/ TNE SSE S www@ ATTORNEYS MICHAEL PARIS FORAN, OF JOHANNESBURG, TRANSVAAL.
DEVE :DOPING-TRAY Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 25, 1908.
Application filed February 14. 1907. Serial No. 357285.
To all whom it 711er/ concern.'
Be it known that l, MICHAEL PARIS FonAN, a subject ol the King of Great Britain, and a resident of Johannesburg, Transvaal, South Africa, have invented a new Developing-T ray, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to trays adapted to support photographic plates or films, and has 'for its object to provide a safe means for holding plates or films while being developed, and adapted to enable the plate cr films to be examined by transmitted light without being removed from the tray, and also to enable the entire operation to be accomplished without requiring the 'lilm or negative to be handled by the operator.
Such objects l accomplish by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which drawings like characters of reference indicate like parts throughout the views, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a device embodying my invention; Fig. 2 is a plan of a device embodying my invention with a photographic plate supported thereon', and Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse section of the tray or plate shown in Fig. 2 taken on the line 313 of Fig. 2.
As illustrated in the drawings, my device consists of a tray having Vl'lat longitudinal side plates l and end plates 2 Yforming a rectangular ledge with an open interior, the ledge being thereby adapted to support a photographic plate 3, as shown in Fig. 3, and the open central portion of the tray permitting the plate to be examined by transmitted light without being handled directly by the user, the plate being held safely on the tray by means of lips 4 which are formed on oner i l l l i l l l l l l l of the end plates 2 and extend vertically therefrom, and retaining lips 5 extending transversely of the side plates or ledges of the tray and separated 'from the surface thereof and Improved so as to hold a photographic plate between the retaining lips and the ledge ot the tray, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. The tray is provided with side bars 6 by means of which the tilm or negative may be readily immersed in a developing bath, and the side bars 6 are connected with the side plates l of the tray by means of vertical bars or plates 7. The centrai plates or bars 7 Jiurnish a support for the transverse retaining lips 5, and said lips may, if desired, be made integral with said central bars, and in Inost instancesl prefer to make the retaining lips 4 integral with the end plates 2 of the tray, as shown in Fig. l.
The tray Inay be made of any suitable size to suit the various negatives and cut iilms, and may be constructed of any suitable Inaterial, such as xylonite, ebcnite, granitine, enameled iron or other suitable material.
Having thus described my invention, l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
A developing tray consisting of a bent sheet having an open base portion, vertical side walls partially cut away, and stops pro vided upon the side walls and base, respectively, the stops upon the side walls being spaced 'from the base portion, substantially as and for the purpose set Jforth.
ln testimony whereof l have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
MlCl-lAEL PARIS FORAN.
