' he object of this invention is to protect the working mechanism from dust and dirt either deposited from the atmosphere or resulting from the use of en eraser upon the sheet 1n the machine: and s further object is to reduce the noises Oi impsct and vibration.

The invention is particularly applicable t o a front-stroke machine hr1-'ving a vertically disposed type ber segment und type 1e -bsrs which lie with their heads toward t front of the machine.
