APPLICATION FILED APR. 29, 1907.

ERNEST ENGHOLM', or NEW YORK, N. Y.
TOBACCO-PIPE;
Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed April 29. 1907- Serial No. 370 927- Patented Dec. 10, 1907.
To all whom it. may concern:
Be it known that I, ERNEST ENGHOLM, a
citizen of the United States, residingat New York-city, Bronx,-county and State of New York, have invented new and useful Imrovements in Tobacco-Pipes, of which the ollowing is a specification.
This invention relates to a tobacco pipe in which the nicotin and-saliva are entrapped by a vessel removably fitted, within the mestem, so that by removing a filled vesse and re laci it b a new one cleanliness is insured.
, In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of my im roved tobacco pipe; Fig. 2 a side view 0 the same, showing the parts separated, and with the mouth-pieee partly broken away; Fig. 3 a
cross section on line 33 Fig. 1 Fig. 4 an enlarged longitudinal section through the and Fig. 5 an end view thereof.
nto the neck 10 of the bowl 11 is screweda plug 12 towhich is removably secured by -means of a slip-joint, one end of the cylindrical pipe-stem 13. The other endof this stem is removably attached to the mouthpiece. 14 by means of athreaded ni ple 15. Within stem 13 is removably fitte a trap ''.',consisting of a cylindrical barrel or vessel 16, the heads 17 of which have central perforations 18. The forward perforation serves for the admission of a tube 19 that extends from bowl 11 throughplug 12 into the barrel, and
- that extends from=the mouthpiece-.14 into opens within the latter. The rear perforat1on serves for the admission .of'a tube 20 thebarrel and also 0 one within the same.
QThe-two inner ends 0 tubes 19, 20, inclosed by the barrel are deflected in opposite d1rec-' tions, to prevent a direct passage of smoke or liquid throu h the same. -Each head 17 is grooved for t e accommodation of a'packing ring 21 that insures. a tight joint between thehead and the tube extending through said head. Within the barrel may be contained a cylindrical lining 22, made of absorbent material and having centrally perfo-- the ends of the barrel, but also to constitute bearings for the inner ends of tubes 19, 20.
In use the nicotin from bowl 11 will flow through tube 19 into the barrel, and the salive from mouth-piece -14.will also flow into the barrel through tube 20. In this way the nicotin is prevented from reaching the mouth, and the saliva; is revented from reachingthe bowl, so that c eanliness is insured. As soon as the barrel has been sufli:
ciently filled with an accumulation of saliva l and nicotinilit is removed and thrown away,
While a fres barrel is inserted. Thus cleaning of the pipe proper is avoided, and a pleasant smoke is insured. 1
I claim: j p 1. A. tobacco pipe provided'with a bowl, a mouth-piece, a stem, a vessel inclosed within the stem and having a pair of centrally per-,
forated heads and a pair of tubes enteri said heads and and mouth-piece res ectivel the inner ends of said'tubes'bei efiecte sel in apposite directions, substantially as communicating with the bow within the ves- 2. A tobacco pipe provided with a bowl,a
mouth-piece, a stem, a vessel inclosed within the stem and having a air of centrally perforated heads, a pair 0 tubes entering said heads and communicating 'with'the bowl and;
mouth-piece respectively, the inner ends of said tu es being deflected within the Vessel in opposite directions, and an absorbent lining inclose'd by the vessehsubst'antially as specified.
