Description

PATENTED DEC. 10, ,190'7.
C. MOE. .GEM DISPLAYING RING.
APPLICATION FILED 0OT.1 1906.
THE mmms PETERS co., wnsumaro/v. c.
CHARLES MOE, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
GEM-DISPLAYING RING.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 10, 1907.
Application filed October 1. 1906. Seriai No. 336,960.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES Mon, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gem-Displaying Rings, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to gem displaying rings, for use by retail jewelers, and has for its object to provide a simple and eflicient structural formation and combination of parts adapted to readily and rapidly receive different sizes of gems, and display the same in a manner equal to a regular setting, all as will hereinafter more fully appear.
In the accompanying drawings :Figure 1 is a erspective view of the present improved disp ay ring. Figs. 2 and 3 are side eleva tions of the same illustrating the same holding dilferent sizes of gems.
Similar numerals of'reference indicate like parts in the different views.
Referring to the drawings, 1 represents a ring formed of a suitable resilient material and which is formed with a cut or opening 2 in its wall, so that the ends formed by said out may be forcibly spread apart against the normal resilient tendency of the material forming the ring to hold such ends together.
3 are holding prongs, similar to those used in gem settings and which are arranged in opposed relation on the respective ends, as shown in the drawing.
In actual use the respective ends of the ring carrying the holding prongs aforesaid, will be spread apart sufliciently to receive the gem to be displayed, and then allowed to close upon and hold the same in place under the resilient stress of the main portion of the ring. So constructed and arranged the present ring aifords all the appearance of an ordinary ring setting for displaying gems, while at the same time permitting of a rapid removal and replacement of difierent sizes and qualities of gems as the purchaser proceeds with making a collection.
Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A display ring for jewelers, the same comprising an open circle of resilient material provided with opposed gem holding prongs at the respective sides of its open portion, said holding prongs being normally in close relation and requiring to be sprung apart in order to receive and have holding engagement with agem.
Signed at Chicago, Illinois, this 29th day of September 1906.
