Description

UNITED STATES PATENT FIEICEo DAVID NEFF, OF HENRY COUNTY, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN SODA-FOUNTAIN.
Specijcat'oa for-ming part of Letters Patent No. 87 ,962, lated March 1G, 1869.
- To all 4whom it may concern avoiding their coming in contact with metal pipes, te., corroding the saine, which usually leads to bad consequences.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
In the drawings, Figure l represents a side elevation of my machine, and a feeding-cooler; and Fig. 2 isa vertical section through the former, Sac..
A represents any table or support for my apparatus. B is any ordinary water-vessel or ieecooler, while 0 represents a suction and force pump, which is connected to B by a pipe, a, entering the bottom of each. a may be made of two sections, one attached to each of the vessels, and connected together at b by a coupling. 'Ihe connection of pipe to the cooler may also be made by a coupling, by which means the several parts may be readily separated and removed where and when desired.
The mouth of pipe n, where it enters the bottom of the fountain or vessel C, is covered by a valve, c, made so as to rise. There is also a hinged valve, cl, inside of and at the bottom of the spout D, opening into the same. Eve represent a valve which plays up and down tightly inside of vessel C. The top of E passes through and is secured to a W-shaped metal rod, F, which extends down through the table A. The ends of the bent rod pass through and are secured, as seen, to a cross-piece, f, at such distance below the table as to give the valve E e suthcient play up and down in C. f is connected to a pivoted lever, L, by a link, l, pivoted at each end, Any ornament may surn mount the rod E.
Before proceeding to the operation of my A machine or apparatus, I will tirst state the preliininziries. I iirst prepare the ingredients to be used-say, I have soda and sugar in one bottle, and the acid and sugar and eggs in another to make a rich drink. Any lia-veringextract can be supplied. I then proceed to put into a glass proper quantities or proportions out of the bottles just referred to.
By raising the lever L, the valve o at the bottom of C is raised, sucking in or permitting a iiow of water from the cooler B. At the saine time this movement closes the valve d at the bottom of the spout. The glass, with its contents, (chemicals, &c.,) being placed on the tableor held under the spout D, the lever L is now pressed down, and this movement closes the valve v and forces open d, forcing the water just drawn from B up through and out of the spout into the glass, producing the desirable effervescence, and thus getting a cool refreshing drink in all its purity. The operation can be repeated as often as desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure byv Letters Patent of the United States, is-
The combination and arrangement of cooler or reservoir B, pipe a fountain or vessel C, plunger E e, rod F, connecting-piecef, link l, and lever L, constructed and operated in the manner as shown and described, and for the purpose set forth,
