The invention has relation to memoran dum devices for use with telephones, having for its object to provide recording means in connection with the memorandum device, together with simple operating mechanism. Other objects and advantages will hereinafter appear.
With this object in view the invention consists in the novel construction and combinations of parts as hereinafter set forth.
In the accom anying drawings illustrating the invention t e letter a, designates a suporting frame consisting of a cover or platorm plate I), having side frame plates 0, secured thereto, such side frame plates having enlargements d, at each end 0 general circular or polygonal form, the enlargements at the upper raised or rear end, extending above and below the side frame bars and the enig. 10 is a detail fraglargernents at the lower or forward end extending below the side frame bars, the platform plate having an upward cover extension e,-at its rear or upper end for the aper roll and its shaft at this end, and a ownward cover or (guard extension f, at its forward or loweren for the paper roll and its shaft at this end acting as a connection for such enlargements and for the side frame plates and forming covered spaces wherein the paper rolls ma be located. The shafts for the pa er ro have journal bearings in the end en argements d, of the side frame plates, the rear shaft being located in line with the side frame bars and the forward shaft below the same, such shafts carrying the aper rolls g, g, located below and hidden extensions of the platform late. Paper from the supply r0 6, at the upper end of the device passes through slot 72., located in the angle between the platform plate and its upward extension, thence along the to of the platform plate and down throug slot h in the lower end of the same to the record roll I). The paper upon these rolls 6, b, is rolled theron, as shown, in strips of two plies or layers, the lower duplicate strip passing down upon one side of the lower paper roll, but not being rolled thereon, the end of this lower strip being designed to be torn off for use. The upper or record strip is wound upon the lower roll and provides a permanent record of transactions. Tension springs j, are provided for pressure against both lpaper rolls, the coiled ends of these springs eing preferably wound around brace rods 9', having their ends secured to the sideframe plates below and hidden by the platform plate. The side frame plates have lateral inward extending guide lugs k,
at intervals, under which the paper from the rolls passes. A carbon sheet 1;, is located between the two layers of paper upon the platform plate, this sheet extending transversely across such plate and passingat its ends down in the narrow space 12, between the side frame plates and the platform (plate at each 101 side, a clampm, being provide at each side to secure such ends in place. This clamp m, is pivoted to a side frame plate at one end, and has parallel side bars m designed to be pressed down into close engagement with105 the upper edge portion of such side frame y the end 70 late, which is received between the parallel side as shown in Fig. 5 of tlie drawin s, 86
ars of the clamp. The inner side wall of the grooved clamp is thus-located in the narrow interval between the side frame plate and platform plate, and acts to clamp in a secure manner the end of the carbon sheet.
Each paper roll shaft is usually provided with an operating knob extension n, at one side, this knob extension being shown in the present case as having a bifurcated stem a, designed to pass within the hollow end of the shaft into enga ement with a transverse pin n whereby, W en the knob is turned, the shaft will turn therewith, and at the same time-the knob can be readily removed when the shaft of the paper roll, which has bearin s in perforation of the enlargement of the side frame bars, with the roll carried thereby, can also be removed. This pa er roll is then slipped off from the shaft for ing of record and a new roll having been slipped in place upon the shaft, it is replaced in the machine.
The middle portion of the platform plate at each side as shown in Fig. 5 is bent inward upon itself to form guide grooves p, below the late, in which a removable plate I), is
rovlded, havin its forward and rear ends bent into. cylin rical form at g. In these cylinder extensions g, are received transverse supporting rods 1', 1*, connecting the two ends of spring -clam 3, designed to be slipped u on the stan ard of a desk tele hone, an
a justing screw 1", being provide for such clamp.
In case the device is used with .a wall telephone, a longitudinal seat or socket strip if, is secured centrally to the plate g, in w ich the end portion of an angle bar support t, is secured, and held by adjusting screw it, as shown in Fig. 5 of the drawin s. This angle bar support has a downward cut end i received and held in a socket of a wall plate 1?.
In Fig. 6 of the drawings, the transverse supporting rods r, 1', are shown as connected bya clamp late u, having an opening therein to receive the edge portion of a shelf when the device is used in connection with a shelf telephone, a clamping screw '21 being provided.
In Fig. 7 of the drawings a further modified form of support for the invention is shown, '10, 'w, representing supporting legs having pivotal connection with the side frame plates at w, and having stop engagement at 10* with the rear paper roll shaft, and at 10 with an inturned lug of the side frame plate. These legs to, w, are each formed of a single iece of wire, as shown and are designed to e capable of bein folded inward out of the way, as shown in dotted lines in such figure, when the device may be readily slipped into the ocket.
The rear or upper extension 6, of the platform plate may ave guideways e, at each wherein an index call card for frequent ca ls may have place, or wherein'a writing pad may be located and used for memorandums when the device is otherwise being used for du licate orders.
n Fig. 5 of the drawings is shown a modified form of the invention, in which but one of the frame. In this case, the original and duplicate paper strips pass from the roll down over the platform and throu h the slot h, at the lower end of the frame t e ends of such strips hanging loosely in position to be torn off.
