MAX WITT, OF ATLANTA, GEORGIA.
VIEW-FOLDER AND MAILING-CASE TIIEREFOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 4, 1908.
Application filed June 6. 1907. Serial No. 377.662.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, MAX WITT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Atlanta, in the county of Fulton and State of Georgia, have invented a new and useful View-Folder and Mailing-Case Therefor, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to view folders and mailing cases therefor and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of its parts as hereinafter shown and described.
The object of the invention is to provide a folder with a hinged section which is adapted to cooperate with au opening provided in a mailing case so as to permit the folder to be slipped from the inside to the outside of the case and swung thereon without becoming entirely disconnected from the same.
lnthe accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a perspective of the folder and case. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same unfolded. Fig. 3 is a sectional view, and 4 is a plan view of the blank of the case.
The folder l may be in the form of a booklet having a suitable number of leaves bound or stapled together or it mayv be in the form of a continuous strip of folded paper. The said folder bears desired views and the free edge of one of its covers is provided with a bar 2 which is attached thereto by means of a hingeS which is preferably made of linen or other woven fabric. The mailing case is formed up from a blank 4 which is bent upon the line 5 forming the front and rear sides 6 and 7 respectively. The side 7 is provided in the vicinity of one of its ends with the elongated opening 8 which is greater in length than the breadth of the folder l and less in length than the length of the bar 2 attached to one of the side covers of the said folders. The bar 2 is less in length than the breadth of the sides 6 and`7 ofthe case. The sides and 7 of the case are held together by a paper envelop 9 which is applied to the outer surfaces of the said sides and is provided with an opening which corresponds with the opening S in the side 6. The envelop 9 bears upon its obverse side suitable lines for receiving the name and address of an addressee and' upon its reverse side views or other illustrations calculated to be of a souvenir nature.
The folder l is arranged to slide through the opening 8 and normally lies between the sides 6 and 7 of the case and when within the case the bound end of the folder lies just beyond the outer bounds of the opening S but within the perimeter of the side 6 and hence is accessible for moving the folder longitudinally and at the same time is sufficiently protected by the case to permit its passage through the mail without interruption or objection. When the folder 1 is slipped outside of the case the bar 2 comes in contact with the ends of the perforation S and prevents the said folder from becoming entirely detached from the case. The said folder may then be swung upon the hinge 3 and laid over upon the obverse side of the envelop 9 when it may be opened and its contents perused. Vhen so used the case,'in a measure, becomes an inflexible support for the folder.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters- Patent is l. A folder, a bar hinged to one end thereof and being of greater length than the breadth of the folder, a case havin'g at one side an opening through which the folder may pass without obstruction but which is less in length than the length of the bar.
2. A folder having at the free end of one of its sides a hinged bar, said bar being of greater length than the breadth of the folder, a case having in the vicinity of one of the ends of one of its sides an elongated opening through which the said folder may freely slide but which is less in length than the length of the said bar.
In testimony that l claim the foregoing as my own, lhave hereto `affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
MAX /VITT. Vitnesses:
I. BALAGURE,
MAX OPPENHEIM.
