Description
' @gstellt l weseeeeww .IOIIN M. OAIN, OE LAFAYETTE, WISCONSIN, ASSIGNOR 'IO GEORGE l GAIN, Or SAME PLACE.
IMPROVED HAT-HOLDER ZE-'OR PEWS AND SEATS.
The Schedule referred 'toin these 4Letters Patent and making part of the same.4 a
To all whom it ma/y concern Be it known that I, J 01m M. GAIN, ofv Lafayette, in the county ot' Walworth, and State of Wisconsin, have invented an Improved Hat-Holder, for Churches and Public Halls; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and/exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification- 'a Figure 1 being a view of the device, as attached to the under side of a bench, vor seat, for use.
Figure 2, a view of the same detached, and drawn full size.,
'Like' letters designate corresponding parts in both figures.'
Y Let D represent au ordinaryfseat, or bench.
. My invention consists of a swinging wire or bent-v rod bracket, A, and -a holder, B, attached tothe swinging end of the bracket, constructed and operating sub-I stantially as herein speciiied.
The bracketAconsists of a simple rod, olwire, bent to a form approximating to that'of the letter U, as represented, one end being somewhat longer than the other. An eye, a, is formed on the end of its longer arm, to receive a pivot, c, on Whiohit turns, and which may be a simple wood-screw. p
The eye-portion is best made by bending the wire 'itself into form, and at right angles to the main stem,
so that the bracket may hang about vertically. under the seat. y
The shorter, or swinging arm 0, of the bracket, is,
provided with a hoop, or ring-holder, B, which may be made ofvwire, with a central cross-rod, l1, for attaching it to the arm O of the bracket. This attachment may beby means of a socket, as shown, orin any equiva@ lent manner.
The holder may turnon the bracket, and be removable, if desired.
The entire instrument, thus constructed, is pivoted to the under side of the bench, or seat, just under the rear edge, as shown, so that it can be swung backward, to receive ahat or cap, as indicated in red lines in Iig. 1,v and then swung forward again under the seat, out of the Way. j It is exceedingly simple and cheap, and'does not obstruct tlie seat in the least.
The circular form of the holder B keeps the hat or cap in proper position, so that it can rest close up under the seat. l
I a/m aware that wire hat-holders and brackets have been used, and I do not claim them; nor do l claim the application of movable hat-holders to the bottoms of church and hall-seats, such having been before used, but of different construction and operation from mine; and I am not aware that a pivoted Wire bracket and holder, like that above described, has ever been com` bined with the seat of a church or public hall. Therefore,
Wha-t I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The Ushaped Wire bracket A, provided with a Wire holder, B, and with a pivot-eye, a, in combination with` and pivoted to the bottom, D, of achurch or hall-seat, as herein specified. Y
The above specification signed by Ine, this 13th day of July, 1868. J. M GAIN.
