" Letters Patent No. 87,697, dated Man-ch 9, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT In TRUCK FOR MOVI ENG- BUILDING-S The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it knownthat I, J OHN. S. MILLIKAN, of Thorntown, in the county of Boone, and in the State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in House-Trucks for Moving Buildingsfl'and do hereby declare that the followingis a full, clear, and
exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
' The'naturelof my invention consists in constructing eration, referring to the annexed drawings, which form va part of this specification, and in which-- "Figure 1 is a side view, and
Figure 2, a bottom view. Arepresents the body of the truck, which is solid,
. and of the peculiar construction shown in fig. 1.
' The rear part of the body Ais slotted, or cut, for the insertion of 'one .wheel,;B, which revolves on an axle,
'0, having its bearings in thebody A.
The front part of the body, which is narrower, and not as thick as the rear part, rests on and is pivoted to a square beam orb-ar, D, of suitable length, which beam is, at its ends, provided with journals E E, on which ,the front wheels, I? F, are placed.
On top of the body A is pivoted a bar, G, which is, on itsupper side, provided with pins or spurs a a, and on which the house or building rests.
On the 'under side of the body A is secured a bar, H, the other end of which'is pivoted'to the centre of the square beam D.
At a suitable point on the bar H, is a lever, I, pivoted, which lever is connected with the beam D by -rods J J, pivoted to both lever and beam, and placed, one on each side of the bar H.
One end of the lever 1 extends on the side of the machine, and by the use of this lever the front Wheels will be turned in either direction.
When the front wheels have been trimmed in the manner desired, the lever I is secured by means of a rod, K, which connects the levei with a bar, L, on the side of the body A.
The bar L is provided with a number of holes, so that the end of the bent rod K can be placed at any point desired. I Four of these trucks are necessary to, move a building, and they are then placed, one under each corner. When so placed, the leversI I may be connected by rods, so that one person can turn the front wheels of all the trucks at the same time.
Having thus fully described my invention, o
What Lclaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. A. truck, for moving buildings, when constructed with only three wheels, two in front and one in rear, the latter being placed, so to say, within the body of the truck, substantially as herei-nshown and described.
2. The arrangement of the bar H, lever I, and rods or bars J J, on the bottom of a truck for moving build-- ings, for the purpose of turning the front wheels in either direction, substantially as herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have here unto set my hand, this 12th day of October, 1868.
