' Specification of Batters Patent.
Patented Dec. 31, 1907.
Application filed May 17. 1907-, Serial No. 374.235-
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM J. DECKER, a
citizen of,the United States, residin at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and tate of Michigan, have invented certain new anduseful Improvements in Bow-R'ests, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is; a bow 'rest' or spacer 3 adaptedfor use on thetopsofautomobiles or other vehicles, for thepurpose of prevent-- The device is illustrated in the accom p anying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side view showing parts of a set of bows provided with the invention. Fi 2 is a sectlon on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
n the drawings, 6 indicate the bows! The spacers or rest each comprise a pair of fixtures one of which has the form of a cup as indicated at 7, and the other of which has the form of a stud or lug, as indicated at 8, which fits within the cup. The base of the cup or socket piece is enlarged or flared, and concaved to fit the curvature of the bow. And the base of the stud is similarl formed. These parts are arranged opposite y,'one being fixed to one how and the other to the adjacent how, so that when the top is let down the studs will enter the cups and rest therein.
The two members of'the respective pairs or sets are attached to opposite sides of the bow, by means of a rivet 9, the head of which is I seated in the socket or cap and forms a. bot-" tom or floor-thereto, an the other end of which is expanded or upset over the endof the stud. By thus riveting the arts together they are very firmly fixe Obviously a screw may be used instead, if desired, and one rivet or screw serves to attach both of the fixtures to the bow. Any weakening of the bow-incident to boring throu h'the same is corrected by the strength a orded by the enlarged or extended bases of the fix- .tures.
Theserests'are set in pairs on the bows, and when once fitted they will thereafter strike each other when the vehicle top is lowered. The fit of the stud within the cup is sufficiently close to prevent any lateral bows are spaced apart the wear incident to rubbing together is avoided. When constructed in brass or other metal, theparts are ornamental in appearance, and donot' detract from the looks of the vehicle top.
I claim:
A set of spacers for the bows of a vehicle top, comprislng airs of cup and stud pieces ,secured to the tween, respective"pieces of each pair being attached to opposite sides of the bow by a single fastening device extendin through the bow, the studs beinglocate to enter the cups when the top is folded.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
wiLLIAM J. DECKER.
