Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding partsr 4 Aiepresents the stock, which is provided with screwholes, for securing itto the machine in any suitable manner, for presenting the work to it, having a groove at the bottom, into which the shank of the knife'B is clamped by the plate 0 and set-screwsD D, in amanner toipermit it to be adjusted to any desired gauge.
Immediately behind the point of the knife, a gouge, or groovingdnstrument, E, is carried, for forining a groove in the bottom of the channel cut by the knife The said gouge is also clamped to the stock by a clamping-plate, F, and set-screw, and may be adjusted to out any preferred depth.
The portion of the clamp adjacent to the point of the gouge is tapered down, and adjusted to the proper size to run along and press upon the portion of leather turned up by the knife in cutting the channel, so as to' prevent it fronrfalling back, to cover the channel, before the sewing has been accomplished, and the stock is fitted into the groove of the gouge, to discharge the cuttings. I
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new, and desire to' secure by Letters Patent 1'. The stock A, constructed as described, and adapted for holding the knife and gouge, and seeming them to the machine, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
