HENRY GOOLEY, OF VICTORIA, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA.
HAIR-C OMB Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 13, 1907.
Application filed March 23, 1907. Serial No. 364,009.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY OooLEY, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and a resident of Victoria, in the Province of British Columbia and Dominion of Canada, have invented an Improved Hair-Comb, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in combs for drying the hair after shampooing or bathing; and the invention consists in certain novel constructions and combinations of parts as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a comb embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a cross section thereof on about line 22 of Fig. l; and Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section illustrating the means for securing the heater in place within the casing.
By my invention I provide in connection with the casing a and a comb d, a heater 0 within the casing, and in contact with the back edge of the comb d in such manner as to heat the comb so it will operate efficiently to dry the hair. As shown, the casing a is slotted along one edge at a and has inturned flanges a between which the tenon d near the back edge of the comb fits, the comb being shouldered at the inner and outer edges of the tenon d to abut the casing. A bead 11 extends longitudinally along the back edge of the comb and forms a head abutting the inner edges of the inturned flanges o as best shown in Fig. 2, so the comb will be held securely to the casing when fitted therein, and the head or bead 11 will be in position to contact with the heater 0 when the parts are applied as shown in Fig. 2. In securing the comb Within the casing, the comb may be arranged or fitted in the casing in making the device as best illustrated in Figs. 2 and 3, and will contact with the heater 0 and will be heated to dry the hair as desired.
The heater may be an ordinary electrical resistance coil, or may be any other form of heater. When a resistance coil or electrode is employed, the wires 0/ may lead therefrom through one of the handles B. These handles extend from the opposite ends of the casing and are connected therewith in the manner best shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing The handles may be of any suitable material, and it may be preferred in practice to make these handles of material of low conductivity of heat or non-conductors so they will insulate the hands of the operator in using the comb. While I show the handles at both ends of the casing, it is manifest one of the handles might be omitted, or the double handled comb may be manipulated from one or the other of the handles as desired by the operator.
I claim:
1. The improved hair drying comb herein described, comprising the casing slotted along one edge and provided on opposite sides of said slot with inturned flanges, a heater within the casing, a comb having near its back edge. a tenon fitting in the slot of the casing and between the inturned flanges thereof, and shouldered at the inner and outer edges of said tenon to abut the casing, and having at its inner rear edge a bead or head in contact with the heater within the casing. substantially as set forth.
2. An apparatus substantially as described, comprising a casing slotted along one edge, and having inturned flanges along the opposite sides of said slot, a comb fitting within the slot between said inturned flanges, and ex posed at its inner rear edge within the casing, and a heater within the casing, substantially as set forth.
A hair drying comb, comprising a casing slotted .along one edge, a comb, having a tenon fitting in the slot of the casing and shouldered at the inner and outer edges of said teuon to abut the casing andv a heater, substantially as set forth.
HENRY COOLEY.
