LAMP-CHIMNEY HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 13, 1907.
Application filed April 20, 1906- Serial No. 312,899,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HORACE F. GLEASON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Malden, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Lamp-Chimney Holder, of which the following is a specification. i
My invention relates to improvements in lamp chim ney holders having a loop surrounding the chimney above the bulge with verticals connecting the loop to the burner of the lamp. I
The objects of my improvements are to provide a safer, mechanically better, more durable and a more desirable chimney holder than any heretofore conceived. I attain these objects by the article shown in the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1. is an elevation of the preferred form of the holder attached to a lamp and chimney. Fig. 2. is a plan of the top of the holder. Fig. 3 is an elevation of the improved holder alone. Fig. 4 is a cross section of the holder on the line X X. Fig. 5 is a side elevation of the lower part of the verticals. Figs. 6-7 and 8 show elevations and cross-sections of three different forms of vertical differing, in detail only, from the preferred form shown in the first five figures.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
A is a common lamp chimney.
B is a common lamp burner.
G is the loop of the holder.
D is the upright connecting B and 0 being made in parts adjustable on each other longitudinally. The upper end has a hook or eye to engage C while the lower end has a hook to engage B a is a collar peculiarly suitable to this preferred form of holder, holding the ends of the loop C together in the upper end of D. and being made of sheet metal.
b and e are the parts of the vertical D which are adjustable on each other vertically. e is so bent that by adjusting the collar d sufficient friction can easily be developed to secure the parts b and e in any desired adjustment.
f in Fig. 7 is a set-nut one of which above and below 6 holds it in adjustment on b. b in Fig. 7 is shown as a fiat section. It might be a round section. In Fig. 7 the upper end of e surrounds b sliding on it without turning on it.
g in Fig. 6 is a small nib which passes through any of the holes in b and secures 6 and b in adjustment with the aid of the collar (I. 9 preferably is of the same piece of metal as e.
h in Fig. 8 is a collar which together with the thumb screw 'i holds b and e in vertical adjustment.
The holder can be made of any suitable materials preferably brass. I do not mean to restrict the scope of the patent to this particular form or material but only to the spirit and general form of the object. The minor details may be made in infinite varietyv I am aware of the existence and scope of U. S. Patents, 314,397; 483,586; 564,286; and 608,615 among others in this class; but I am not aware that a lamp chimney holder having verticals in sections adjustable on each other vertically has been conceived heretofore; or that a lamp chimney holder having a loop, nonadjustable in itself, made of an elastic material, combined with a vertical adjustable in itself vertically by any means whatever, has ever been conceived heretofore; therefore,
What I claim and wish to secure by Letters Patent, is
A lamp chimney holder, having vertical side pieces formed of parts adjustable longitudinally upon each other, said side pieces being permanently attached at the upper ends to a ring surrounding the chimney above its largest part, and detachably connected at their lower ends with the burner, substantially as described.
' HORACE F. GLEASON.
