UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALBERT MARTINEAU, OF MANCHESTER, NEW HAMPSHIRE, ASSIGNOR TO L. HORMIDAS GAUVIN AND NAPOLEON GAUVIN, BOTH OF MANCHESTER, NEW HAMPSHIRE.
WINDOW-FASTEN IN G.
Patented July 30, 1907.
Application filed October 19, 1905. Serial No. 283,377.
To all whom it may concern:
- Be it known that I, ALBERT MARTINEAU, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Manchester, county of Hillsboro, State of New Hampshire, United States of America, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in WindowFastenings; and -I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to window sash supports; the object of my invention is to provide a simply constructed and easily operated window sash support, which will be operated without the use of springs; a further object of my invention is to provide means for replacing the worn out friction members of the sash supports; and my invention consists of the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as herein illustrated, described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings forming part of this application, I have illustrated one form of embodiment of my invention, in which drawings similar reference characters designate corresponding parts, and in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of one side of a window frame and its sashes, showing the application of my invention; Fig. 2 is a vertical section on line 2-2 of Fig. 1 looking in the direction indicated by the arrow; Fig. 3 is a side elevation of a sash holder. Fig. 4 is a vertical section on line 44 of Fig. 3; Fig. 5 is a plan view of a sash holder; and Fig. 6 is a side elevation of a modified form of sash holder.
Referring to the parts: 1 designates a plate adapted to be secured in position by means of the screw 2. Secured to, or forming an integral part of the plate 1 is a yoke 3. Disposed through the yoke 3 and the plate 1 is a screw 4 adapted to serve as a pivot for a bar 5, one end 6 of which is bent at an angle to the body thereof, and is of greater dimensions than said body to form a weighted section so that the body 5 is held horizontally.
Disposed through one end of the body 5 is a bolt 7 having on its opposite end a nut 8, by means of which a body of resilient material 9, such as hard rubber may be held in place. By this construction, when the rubber 9 is worn it may be readily removed and 'a new piece placed on the body 5.
In the modification shown in Fig. 6 there is a pivotal member 5 whose bent end 6 is not weighted, so that the parts normally assume the angle shown in said figure.
In the operation of my invention I usually place the holder shown in Figs. 3, 4 and 5 on the upper cross bar of the upper sash where the rubber member 9 is normally in engagement with the side of a Window frame A By forcing the end 6 upward the end 9 is brought from engagement with the window casing and the sash may be raised or lowered and locked in any position desired.
I generally place a lock on the frame as shown in Fig. 6 on the window frame A, where the ends 9 of the members 5 and 5 will bear on the inner face of one of the vertical sides of the sash. The lower sash may be unlocked by actuating the ends 6 and 6 towards each other. When they are released they assume the position shown in Fig. 6 and the sash is locked in position.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In a sash lock, a supporting plate provided with an integral yoke, a plurality of members provided with bent ends pivotally supported within the yoke, a strip of resilient material disposed over the ends of said members, and a bolt disposed through said strip and said members.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
