Description
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICEQ ARTHUR W. DORE, OF LAKE VALLEY, CALIFORNIA.
IMPROVED BRAKE-BLOCK HOLDER.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 86,007; dated January 19, 1869.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR W. Dorm, of Lake Valley, El Dora-do county, in the State of California, have invented a new and Improved Brake-Block Holder; and I do hereby.
declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification.
This invention relates toanew andimproved device for securing brakeblocks to the brake bars of railroad-cars and all vehicles that require a brake, whereby the blocks are firmly held in position, old ones readily removed, and new ones secured in their place.
The accompanying drawing represents a vertical central section of my invention.
Ais a metal plate, having its upper and lower ends bent so as to form, at the upper end, a lip or flange, a, for a screw, B, to pass through, and form at the lower end a jaw, I).
The lip or flange a is about at a right angle with the main portion of the plate A; but the jaw 1) forms an acute angle with A, the jaw slightly projecting upward, as clearly shown in the drawing.
0 is a jaw, which is about the same size as the jaw b but said jaw G is made separately from A, and is provided with an arm, 0, which extends through a vertical oblong slot, 01, in A, and has a screw-nut, c, on its end.
The lower end of the screw B is fitted in the jaw O in such a manner as to form a swivelconnection and admit of the jaw 0 being adjusted higher or lower by turning the screw 13.
From the above description it will be seen that the brake-block D may be firmly secured or clamped between the jaws I) C by turning or adjusting the screw B, which raises and lowers the jaw O, and when the block is firmly clamped the jaw C may be secured by screwing up the nut e.
The plate A is attached to the brake-bar goo); shown) by bolts passing through holes f 1n I claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters Patent- The plate A, provided with the lip or flange or and fixed jaw b, in combination with the screw B and the movable jaw O, fitted in the oblong slot d in A, and provided with the screw-nut c, all constructed and arranged in the manner substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
ARTHUR W. DORE.
