IMPROYEMENT Flam-MERS.-
- Be n known that I, GERARD swims, of nosas, in the county of Suffolk, and State of Massachusetts, have` invented a new and useful Improver'nentin Water- Meters, of which the following 'is a full, clear, and eiract description, referencebeing had to the accompanyin g` drawings, making a part of this specication, in w 1o1- l Figure 1 represents a vertical longitudinalfsection of a water-meter, embodying my improvement;

The valves B and C are enclosed ,in a. suitable casing, D, which is .provided-with an inlet-opening, E, a suitable outlet, F, being provided in the lower cylinder A.

- Operation.
-The water, entering through the inlet E, fil1sv the 'valve-chest I), and, when the parts'are in the position shown 'in.ig.'1, passes, through the port fi, into the main cylinder A, and -forces the piston a' forward, causingthe'abutments, or toes c c', to come in contact .movement to the shaft d. This movement of the shaft at the Vsame time imparts a motion to'v the slide-valve O, through the arm p' and .studs q y, thus covering one port'and opening the other. Thewater then .enters into the cylinder B, and moves the' same, closing` the der B, through the'recess rr, on the under side of the pistons a a', and out at the exit F..
The apparatus above described may be used as a rod through one head of the main cylinder, and usingv steam instead of water asa motor.
