Description

D. DOYYEN. DOOR HANGER.
APPLIUATION FILED JAN. 10,
PATENTED SEPT. s, 1907;
1m: Nome): PETERS cm, WASHINGTON, n. c.
DENIS DOYEN, OF SOHAERBEEK, BELGIUM.
DOOR-HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 3, 1907.
Application filed January 10, i906- 7 Serial No. 295,448.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DENIS DOYEN, a subject of the Kingdom of Belgium, residing in Schaerbeek, near Brussels, Kingdom of Belgium, 79 Rue Jolly, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door- Hangers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked therein, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in sliding doors particularly adapted for use on railway cars, buildings and the like.
The object of the invention is to insure an easy move ment and to prevent binding incident to doors of this character.
The invention consists in providing a guidance of a length double the width of the door which insures a constant parallel movement of the door to the floor and in providing noiseless bearings for the guide of a suitable material adapted to sustain the weight of the door.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is an elevation showing the complete apparatus, and Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail vertical section of one of the hangers.
The apparatus consists of a horizontal rod 1 fixed to the uprights of a door frame by supports 2 and 3, and upon this rod is mounted a tube or guide sleeve 4 having a larger bore than the diameter of the rod. On each end of the tube is mounted a stufiing box 5, 6 in which are placed washers 7 (Fig. 2) having a bore of substan tially the same size as the diameter of the rod 1 thus holding the tube 3 out of contact with the rod. These washers are preferably made of wood fiber but may be of a lubricating cotton or any other suitable material adapted to sustain the weight of the door, that will be noiseless when slid along the support. The Washers are held in place within the boxes by means of nuts 14 which screw into the boxes and compress the washers between the end of the nut and a flange 15 formed with in the box.
The length of the guidance is indicated by the dotted line A-B and will be found to be twice the width indicated by (3-D of the door 9.
The door is connected with the tube by straps 10 and 11. For the lower guide-rail for the door which is usually fixed to the floor is substituted a short guide 12 and 13.
I claim:
In combination with a door, a guide rod and a guide sleeve, of a plurality of disks of vegetable material mounted in the sleeve and surrounding the guide rod and arranged to slide thereon.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing my inven tion, I have signed my name in presence of two subscrib ing witnesses.
DENIS DoYnN.
