To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, JOHN MoGLYNN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Troy, county 01 Rensselaer, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottles, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to such improvements and consists of the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and subsequently claimed.

Reference may be had to the accompanying drawings, and the reference characters marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

Similar characters refer to similar parts in the several figures therein.

My invention relates to improvements in bottles, and particularly to that class of bottles which are designed to contain some proprietary liquid, the manufacturer of which does not desire to have counterieited and sold, or used, from refilled bottles which had formerlycontained the genuine liquid, such bottles being commonly known as non-refillable bottles.

The object of the invention is to provide a bottle which cannot be refilled with the counterfeit liquid without the counterfeit being detected by the user or consumer.

The invention consists in providing a bottle with a series of level-indicators extending from an upper to a lower level of the bottle which can be detached from the bottle separately and successively to indicate the varying levels of the liquid within the bottle as the same is used or intermittently poured from the bottle, as will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims.

Figure 1 of the drawings represents a side elevation of the improved bottle. Fig.2 is a horizontal section of the same taken on the broken line 2-2 in Fig. 1.

The bottle, 1, is provided with a V-shaped depression forming a groove, 2, in its side-wall extending from an upper level, 3, to a lower level, 4, the upper level being at or near the top of the bottle, and the lower level being at or near the bottom of the bottle. Located in the bottom of the groove is shown a series of projections or level-indicators 5;

The individual members of the series are preferably made integral with the bottle-wall, and do not project from the mouth of the groove but are Wholly contained within the peripheral surface of the bottle, in order that they will be protected from accidental breakage in handling or shipping of the bottles.

By inserting a knife-blade, or other similar article, in the groove between a projection, 5, and the grooveuors which are retailed by the glass, as in saloons, fromthe bottle.

When the contents of the bottle have been sold or used down to the level of the upper detachable projection, 5, that projection is broken off or detached. In a similar manner the succeeding projections, 5, are detached as the level of the liquor in the bottle approaches the bottom or lowest level until all of the projections are detached. These projections are to be detached or broken in the presence of the user who will be interested in noting that the projections are so detached as the proper levels of the liquor in the bottle are reached.

It would be impossible to again use such a bottle for liquors in connection with customers who understand the significance of the stubs which formed a part of the broken projections and convince such customers that the contents of the bottle were the genuine liquor and not a counterfeit.

The bottles or level-indicators may be made of any known desired material or form without departing from the spirit of my invention, and the levelindica tors may be located and arranged in any desired manner, and in any desired positions adapted to indicate different levels on the bottle.

What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A bottle having a series of level-indicators integral therewith and breakable therefrom, members of which are located at dilr'erent levels.

2. A bottle having a series of breakable level-indicators integral with and projecting exteriorly from the bottle and occupying difierent horizontal planes.

A bottle having integral therewith a series of levelindicators individually breakable from the bottle and located at regular intervals extending from a level at the top of the bottle to a level at the bottom of the bottle.

4. A bottle having an introverted side-wall forming a channel extending from a level near the top or the bottle to a level near the bottom of the bottle; and a series of projections individually detachable located in such chan nel.

5. A bottle having in its side wall a Vshaped groove extending from an upper to a lower level; and a series of projections individually detachable wholly contained in and wholly contained within the peripheral surface of the I therefrom, located in the bottom of the groove at uniform bottle. distances from each other.
