Description

- in both figures.
its diluted tant linten @if OCTOR LQMAYHEW, OF SANBORN,` NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR SELF AND JOHN TO HIM- MILLER, OF THE SAME PLACE.
Letters Patent No. 86,430, dated Februar/ry 2, 1869.
IMPROVED MILK AND BEER-COOLER4 The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the sama.
To all whom it 'may concern:
description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is an elevation of my device, shown applied to a pail or tub, the latter in section.
Figure 2 is a plan of the funnel and strainer. Lilie letters of reference indicate corresponding parts My invention is a new article of manufacture, consisting of a spirally-coiled tube, having a funnel-shaped receiver at its apex, and a siphon vconnected with itsI base or lower coil, to admit of its being placed within a pail or other vessel, and have its eduction outside, and also to enable the liquid passed through it to be fully drawn from the coil by atmospheric pressure,
as hereinafter stated, the whole being so constructed as to be portable, and adapted for use in various kinds of vessels, with ice, water, or other refrigerator, for household and other purposes.
In the drawings- A represents a coiled tin, zinc, or other suitable pipe, arranged in a conical form, the largest at the base, so that it supports itself in an upright position, when set inside a pail,'box, or other receptacle, as shown;
The upper end of this coil is furnished with a funnel-shaped mouth, B, having, in its neck, a strainer,
O, to strain the milk or other liquid poured into the Amouth of the funnel, and also having a half cover, a, to prevent slopping over. v
The lower end of this coil is formed into a Siphon,
D, fonthe exit of the milk or suitable receptacle below.
vA series of stays, d d, is arranged vertically on the coil, to brace and sustain it.
The special novelty in this case consists in making the cooler entirely independent of the receptacle in which itis placed for cooling, and adapting it for use in the latter by-providing the siphon D, which bends over the edge of the receptacle, and, acting on the other liquid into any principleof atmospheric pressure, runs off all'theliquid that is inserted, without any artificial means.
Without the combination of the siphon with the coil, the device could not be used independently, and still discharge all the contents while in place, surrounded by the ice, for the simple reason that no outlet or discharge could be had on a level with the top of the pail, in Vwhich case the liquid would stand in the body of the coil, onia level with the top of `the pail.-
I am aware of a patent issued to Watson Peck, April 23, 1867, in -which a coil of pipe is employed in a box. Suchv is not the equivalent of my invention, for the reason that. it is fast iu the box, and has no siphon.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, as a new article of manufacture, is-
The independent milk and beer-cooler, consisting of .the coil A, funnel B, and SiphonV D, the wholel arranged as described, and operating in the manner and for thel purpose specied.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto signed my name, in the presence of two subscribiugwitnesses.
