Be it known that I, GUrLLERMo AN'roNio FARINI, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and a resident of Toronto, in the county of York and Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented new and useful Improvements in. Boats, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in boats, and consists principally of a boat of single tube construction from stem to stern.
The boat has one or more decks, and is strengthened by a number of longitudinal I beams rigidly secured to the inner sides of the boat, a proper distance apart, and extending the length of the boat. Suitable steel girders are secured to the I beams referred to, and at proper distances apart.
The boat is provided with upper and lower decks in the tube, and supported by suitable vertical walls or pillars and brackets.
The object of my invention is to provide a single tube boat comprising a single shell, of steel construction, with decks inside of the tube, all suitably supported and braced together for strength and stability and means to prevent the cargo from shifting.

1n the drawing, the single tube, or shell of the boat, is indicated by A, and is of suitable end shape.
B, indicates a number of I beams which extend longitudinally in the boat, and are rigidly secured to the inner sides thereof, at proper distances apart.
C indicates straight girders arranged in circumferential sets at proper distances apart; and each girder is secured at one end to the outer edge of one beam B, at its center to the inner edge of the next, and at its other end to the outer edge of the next beam. Thus the beams form struts and the girders trusses of a light framework which lirmly braces the tubular shell on its interior, while occupying a minimum of space therein and requiring I attain i this object by the mechanism illustrated in 3 no inner shell between which and the hull moisture might accumulate or vermin thrive. By preference the girders of one setare in alternated relation to those of the next, so that the struts of one set will stand between the ends of the trusses oi the sets adjacent. This gives great strength to the hull against torsion and external pressure, and yet leaves storage space between the sets of girders. The I-bcams also prevent the shifting of cargo.
E, is an upper deck in the boat, and F, is a lower and similar deck both of which extend to the inner sides of the shell A, and secured thereto. The lower deck F, is partially supported by pillars or walls 2, which extend from the underside ofthe deck to the shell A. The upper deck E, is partially supported -from the lower deck by centrally located pillars, or wall 3, and by suitable stay-brackets 4, which extend from said deck to the sides oil the shell A. The wall 3, prevents the cargo from shifting in the boat.
The upper part of the shell A, is provided with a promenade deck 6, with railing 7, and central hatchway S, the whole supported by vertical walls 9, on the shell A.
The principal and important elements in this invention are, a single tubular boat with longitudinal I beams B, rigidly secured to the inner sides thereof, and girders O, rigidly secured to the beams B, together with upper and lower decks in the boat, and means for supporting the decks.
The framework composed of beams and girders arranged and connected as above set forth and rigidly secured within the shell strengthens the .hull against pressure from within, such as occasioned by the decks, machinery, cargo, and passengers, and hence the employment of this form of braces within the shell of a tubular boat serves a purpose which they would not have if used in roots where there .is no pressure from within.
