JOSEPH BRKQE R, O F ACHAM-PLAI'N', NEW YORK. I
Lena-s Patent No. 85,052, @ma Decanter-22,1868.
INIPROVEMENT IN `EOIRSE-SHOEIS.
To'all whom 'it 'ma/y concern: w
Beit known that I, JosEPH Blumen, of Champlain, in the county of Clinton, andl State of N ew'York, have invented anew and useful Improvement in Horse-Shoes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', -which willenable those skilled lin the art to'make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
l. This invention is designed to prevent what is termed overreaching in horses, which' consists in striking the rear part of the fore feet with the front part of the hind feet, while trotting.
The invention consists in constructing the shoes for the fore feet quite thin at'their'front parts, and thick at their rearv parts,so that the rear part ofthe fore feet will be more elevated than usual, and the rear part of the hind feet more depressed, h v Whichmeans the desired object is attained;
In the accompanying sheet of drawings- Figure lis a sikle view-of a front shoe,"app1ied to a 4froniffoot of a horse.
Figure 2,. a side view of a Vhind shoe, applied. to va hind foot of'a horse.
Similar4 letters of reference indicate corresponding parts:
A represents a shoe for the forefoot of the animal, 'which isconstructedsimilar to an ordinary horse-shoe,
thelonly dierence being in having it made so as to grad?,
u ally decrease in thickness from its rear to its front end, as shownl clearly in iig. 1.
By this means it will be seen that .the rear part of' the hoof or foot is thrown ilpward.
The shoe B for the hind foot (see iig.' 2) 4is inade'so` as to graduallyvdecrease in thickness from its front to its rear. end, and by this means' the front part ofthe hind hooi' or foot is thrown upward.. f
This elevating of the rear part of the front foot, or hoof,and the front part of the rear foot, or hoof, will prevent overreachi'ng;7 as the feet are enabled to'clear each other, the contact ofthe rearfoot with the front one being' due to the front part ofthe hind foot strik- 'ing the rear part of thev front foot, and the elevating of these portionsof the front vand hind feet will prevent them from coming in contact. l
I claini -as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patenti Constructing horse-shoes o f a gradually-decreasing thickness', the front shoes decreasing in thickness fromj their rear tn their front ends, and the rear shoes gradually decreasing in thickness fromtheir front to their rear ends, substantially as and for the purpose set forth JOSEPH BAKKER.
