DIPROVEIENT HOLDERS FOR BROOM AND BRUSH-HANDLES.

To all persons to who/m these presents shall come Be it known that I', FREDERIC S, PINKHAM, of Boston, in the countyof Suffolk, and State of Massachusetts, have invented' a new and useful Improvementin Broomsor Brushes; and do hereby declare the same to be .fully described in the followingv specification, and represented inthe accompanying drawings, of which- Figure 1 is a side elevation,

Figure 3, a longitudinal Section of a `house-broom provided with my invention.

In carrying out my invention, I combinewith or-` apply to the handle or pole of a broom, an auxiliary suspension-handle, which I prefer to so apply to the broom-handle as to be adjustable or movable lengthwise thereof,and he capable of being fastened in position thereon by a clamp-screw, or itsA equivalent.

During the process of sweeping with a broom by a person, when grasping its handle by both of his or her hands, the lower hand is employed to press the broom along, the upper hand being used for steadying it. The

lower hand consequently is liable to be chafed or cal-l The auxiliary or suspension-handle is shown at B as projecting from a tube or collar, b, which loosely encompasses the handle a, and is provided'with aclampscrew, c, Or other suitable means of xing it in any desirable position.

This vclamp-screw is screwed into the pipe and against the handle a, andzservesto fix the tube o1' collar in any desirable position on such handle.

rIhe auxiliary or bow-handle, formed as represented, consists of a metallic wire, h, bent in the form of a yoke or bow, it being fastened at or neariits ends to the slider or collar. It may have a wooden cylinder, d, applied to it, and such cylinder may turn freely on the straight middle part of the bow. This cylinder is to be grasped by onehand of a person While using the broom, the other hand being ap- Y plied to the main handle at or near its upper end.

This addition to a broom enables a person to "sweep with it much more easily and to better advantage than he can without it. g

I claim the combination and' arrangement'of -the broom and the auxiliary suspension-handle B, provided with means'for adjusting and fixing itv in position on the handle of the broom, as set forth.
