To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JEAN L. REED, a citizen of theUnited States, residing at Little Valley, in the county of Cattarau'gus and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Razor Strop and Case, of which the following is a specification.

The object of my invention is to provide an improved construction of razor strop and case combined, which will be especially useful in traveling and which may be conveniently used either as a swing strop suspended at one end and so arranged as to be flexible for the stropping operation, when it is used as a swing strop, while it may also be laid at upon a table or other support and used in this manner, as the main portion of the strop is rigid enough for this use.

The invention consists essentially of a razor strop, which is provided along both side edges with flexible covering flaps, either one or both of which are designed to carry one or more razors and to fold over and be fastened across the face of a strop, in connection with a folding swivel eye at one end of the strop and a flanged handle at the other end, these two last named parts being adapted to fold underneath the flaps and onto the face of the strop proper, so that the entire device may be conveniently carried in a traveling bag or the like, and always be at hand ready for use, andthe invention further consists of a strop provided with a main stiff portion to one end of which a swiveled eye is connected, and to the other of which a handle is connected, the swiveled eye and said handle being iiexibly or pivotally connected with the main portion of the strop, so that the entire strop may be used as a swing strop or laid flat upon some support and used somewhat in the manner of a whetstone.

For a full description of the invention and the merits thereofl and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction of the means for effecting the result, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in' which:

- 2 is a transverse sectional view thereof with the two flaps secured together at the back of the strop proper; and, Fig. 3 is a longitudinal lsectional view through the entire device, with the parts in folded condition.

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the followin description and indicated in all the views o the drawings by the same reference characters,

Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates the body portion of the device, the main or outer face of which is composed of leather or similar flexible material or some fabric such as canvasv and which is preferably rectangular in shape as shown. It may be faced around the edges by leather or similar binding 3. f

4 designates the main member of the strop proper, which is composed of the besthide or other material usually employed as a surface upon which razors are to be stropped, and the hide or the like is stitched or otherwise secured around its edges as shown to the inner face of the body portion 1, preferably at the middle thereof, whereby to form two flaps, one on each side of the strop. At both ends of the main member of the strop, iexibledoubled tabs 6 of leather or the like are secured, preferably by being interposed between the hide and the body portion .1, and a loop 7 is hinged by one of its cross members, being inserted through one of the loops and is provided with a swivel eye 8, while a` preferably iiexible handle 10 1s secured to the loop 9 which is pivotally mounted in a similar manner in the other loop. Transverse strips 11, which may be composed of leather faced or unfaced, extend preferably midway between the upper and lower edges of the portion of the inner face thereof and from the side edges of the strop to the side edges of the body portion, they preferably being stitched between the strop and body portion at one end and between the binding edges 3 and the body portion 1 at their other ends. These transverse strips 11 are intended to hold the razors Within the case formed by the body portion 1.

At the corners of the body portion 1 fastening devices 12 are secured, these being preferably in the form of the ordinary spring catch fasteners, such as are commonly used on gloves and the like, and the respective members of these fasteners are so located with respect to the outer and inner faces of the body portion as to secure the two flaps over the operative face of the strop or inv an overlapped position on the rear slde of the ICO IIO

the said strips may fold over-the operative` face of the strop and the swiveled eye 8 and handle l0 folded inwardly over said face, so

, as to form avery compact razor case that may be conveniently carried around, and occupies very little space in a traveling bag or the like. Whenever it is desired to strop a razor, it is only necessary to unfasten the iiaps and fasten them against the back of the operative face of the strop. The strop surface is then exposed and the flaps are out-of-theway and the razor may be stropped either by suspending the strop from the swiveled eye 9 and grasping the handle l() in the usual manner of using a swing strop, or the razor may be stropped by laying the strop down upon a flat surface or upon ones knee, as the stiifened plate 5 renders the main stropping portion of the strop sufficiently stiff for this use to be effective. It is to be particularly noted that While the main portion 4 of the strop is stiff, yet the hinged connection of said portion with the swiveled eye S and handle 10, respectively, renders the strop as a whole, a iiexible strop which may be conveniently and properly used suspended from the eye 8.

From the foregoing description in connection with the accompanying drawing, it will be seen that I have provided a very complete and effective device for the purposes herein set forth, and one which will prove an attractive article of manufacture, as it combines in the one article both a strop and a case which take up very little room and therefore will be a useful re uisite for travelers.

I-Iaving t us described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

As an improved article of manufacture, a razor strop provided with 'flaps at its side edges, andv means for fastening said flaps over the face 0i' the strop, the strop being also provided with a foldable swiveled eye and handle adapted to fold upon its face underneath the said Haps.
