CREDIT-ACCOUNTING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 4, 1907.
Application filed November 9, 1906. Serial No. 342,654.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MARION E. GIBsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Portland, in the county of Multnomah and State of Oregon, have invented a new and useful Credit-Accounting Device, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to credit accounting appliances and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of its parts as hereinafter shown and described.
The object of the invention is to provide an appliance of the nature indicated which is provided with means for containing the names and financial rating of the inhabitants of the community. Said names are preferably arranged upon endless belts or ribbons located upon a leaf which is adapted to be used as a writing desk and adjacent each name is placed a suitable cipher which indicates the financial rating of the individual. A series of drawers of special construction are provided and housed within a casing, said casing being made preferably fire proof, the front of Each drawer is provided with a holder for the reception of the name of a customer and is provided upon its inside with means for holding characters which indicate the extent of credit that that particular customer may receive at the establishment. Each drawer is provided with a spring which is adapted to hold credit slips of usual form and thus the original entries of sale are taken care of. In connection with the casing of the appliance an adding machine is provided as is also a card index and a drawer for containing paper rolls for tabulating accounts.
In the accompanying drawings :Figure 1 is a perspective view of the credit accounting appliance. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the closure for the same; and Fig. 3 is a top plan view of a drawer used in the appliance.
The device comprises the casing 1 which is provided with an adding machine 2 of usual construction having the sight opening 3. A drawer 4 is provided above the adding machine for containing paper rolls for tabulating accounts. The drawer 5 contains a card index. A series of drawers 6 are arranged in rows, tier upon tier and each said drawer is provided on its outside with a holder 7 which is adapted to contain a card upon which the customers name is placed. Each drawer is provided in its interior with a holder 8 which .is adapted to contain a card bearing figures v or characters which indicate the extent of credit that that particular person may receive. The spring 9 lies flat in the drawer 6 and is provided near its ends with the convolute sections 10 which adds sufficient elasticity to the said spring to enable the same to be readily swung up in order that the drawer may receive the sale slips 11. The closure 12 is pivoted to the front side of the casing 1 and maybe swung up over the drawer 6. Said closure is provided with a glass top 13 under which a series of continuous tapes or ribbons 14 are mounted for longitudinal movement. The customers names are printed or otherwise placed upon the strips 14 and adjacent each customers name is a character indicative of that particular customers financial standing. The said strips or ribbons 14 turn around the rollers 15 and those rollers 15 which are located nearest the free edge of the closure 12 are provided with the milled nuts 16 whereby the said rollers may be rotated and the strips 14 moved longitudinally in order to bring any particular name to view.
From the foregoing description it is obvious that as credits are made and slips filed away in the cabinet the said credits may be added up upon the adding machine 2 and thus it is possible to ascertain at a glance the exact amount of credit that has been extended. Also, means is afforded for keeping a record of the financial standing of the customers of the establishment and for limiting the amount of credit to each customer in accordance with his rate of standing.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is 1. A credit accounting appliance comprising a casing, a pivoted closure for the casing, a series of endless belts arranged upon said closure and bearing names and ratings, and a series of drawers located in the casing and provided with name plates.
2. A credit accounting device comprising In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto afliXed my signature in the presence of two witnesses. 1o
MARION E. GIBSON.
a casing, a closure pivoted thereto, rollers journaled upon the closure, endless ribbons passing around said rollers and having names and ratings, milled nuts carried by the rollers, a transparent plate lying over Witnesses: said ribbons and a series of drawers located N. CAMPBELL,
in the casing and provided with name plates. E. LLOYD BAYLY.
