RAZOR.
Specification of Letters Patent. l
Patented May 28, 19,07.
implication tiled October 25, 1906. Serial No. 340,510.
To all whom t may con/cern.:
, guard, but to hold a thin blade 7 in l between the walls S and l) of a norma ly open citizen of the United States, residing at N ew York, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Razor, of which the following is a specifica- Ition.
' This invention relates to an improvement l of safety-guards for razors, and the object ivo thereof is to provide a simple safety-guard 2o characters-of reference indicate the same '55 the opposite Walls of the s eeve and on each side ofthe blade.
`|liard may be shifted from one side ofthe i .out in the claims hereunto appended,
tureembodying the invention, Fig. 2 is an l 'to an ordinary razor blade.
sleeve 1 is employed which is slidable over 3o the back of the blade and is provided with pocket, or pockets,l might be formed only on one Wall of the sleeve 1; in the best construcr the pockets of the sleeve. 4 5 :ther provided with a lip which may be applied to an ordinary razor or l 7 to a special razor -in whicha thin blade is used.
With this and other objects in view, the l invention consists in certain constructions l i5 ,and combinations which-will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically pointed In the accompanying drawings which forni a part of this specification, and in which like parts, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a strucl end e'levgition of the structure shown in Fig.' 1,'Fig. Bis a cross sectional view on the line 4device ein odying tl'ae invention and applied In carrying the invention into eil'ect, a
one or more ofl`-set pockets 2. While the tions and as shown, a set of ockcts is located AA safety-guard is provided, and while this guard may vary widely in construction; preferably as shown, it -consists of a series ol' from Which lextends one or more lugs 5 arranged to slide in and be held. in position by r[he har 4 is lur- 6 bent outwardly to forni a handle, by means of which the guard may be placed in and removed from its position.
y -It will be readily understood that th-e adeto the-other by merely with-drawing it rom'one set of pockets on one side of the blade and inserting it in the other set on the other side of the blade.
In the device shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, the sleeve l serves not only to support the safetyosition channel l0, the wall tl being provided with depressions 1l, which engage perforations 12 in the blade. A shank 13 is extended from the walls 8 and ll, before relerred to.
Changes and variations may be Iliade in the structure by which the invention iscariied into eileet The invention, therefore, is not tohe limited to the precise details oll the structure shown and described.
What is claimed is:
l. ln a razor, the combination with a thin blade, oi'a sheet metal support: bont to forni a normally' .open channel for receiving the blade, meansl i'or positioning the blade between the walls of the channel, means for li'ielging the positioning means to retain the blade the locking n'ieans having a set of oil'set pockets, and a safety guard having a set of lugs arranged to slide in and be held by the oll'set pockets, substantially as described.
`2. ln a razor, the combination with a thin blade, oi a sheet metal support bent to vform a normally' open channel for receiving the blade, means for posititniing the blade between the walls of the channel, a sheet metal sleeve slidable over the walls of the channel tohold them together and retain the blade the sleeve having a set of ol l'set pockets, and a safety guard havingr a set. ol" lugs arranged to slide in and be held by the oll'set pockets, substantially as described.
I-l. ln a razor, the combination with a thin perforated blade., of a sheet metal support bent to Alornl a normally openchanncl for receiving the blade, one oi' the walls oll the channel having depressions therein l'or engaging the perl'orations ol'A the blade, a sheet metal sleeve slidable over the walls oil the channel to hold tbe walls together to retain the blade the sleeve having a set of oil'set pockets, and a sal'ety gard having' a set of lugs arranged to slide in and be held by the offset pockets, substantially as described.
4. ln a razor, tlic combinatonwith a thin blade, of a sheet metal support bent to forni a normally open channel for receiving the blade ari-d. having a shank extended i'roin one end, means for positioning the blade between the walls oi the channel, means for locking thpositioning means to retain the l ade the IOO locking means having e set of offset pockets, and e safety guard hauling e set of lugs are ranged to slidein and be held by the offsetpoeketsy substantially es described.
5. ln e razor, the oombinetion with a blade, of 8 sleeve slideble over the beek of the bl ade and provided with e set oi two off-set pockets fony opposite sides, end .LL toothed guard prorespect to the support, e sheet metal sleeve slideble over the wells of the channel to hold 1 seid wells together to retain the blade in position, the sleeve being provided with a set of ofi-set pockets on opposite sides, and ny guard provided with lugs arranged to slide in und be held in position by either of the sets of pockets of the sleeve, substantially es described.
ln testimony whereof, l have signed luy neme to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
