vJOHN L. GIVEN, 0F '.FHUMPKNS CUVE, TEW YORK.
Speccaton of Letters Patent.
Patented le'n. 3.99?.
Application filed october 4,1906. sei-m1 No. 337,362'.
.To MH when it mrtg concern/ Be it known that l, Jo'nN L. GIVEN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Thomplqins Cove, in the c nnty of Rockland and State of New York, have invented. certain new and nselnl improvements in Mal;- ing Concrete lille-ils, ot which the following is a specilieatien.
rlliis invention relates to improvements in making concrete walls; and the object of my .invention is to provide a nenT and improved means lor secnrelyl holding the nprights against which the planling rests that terms the side walls ofthe pocket in which the mixture olE concrete er any other mortar-like suhstencelroin which the Wall to be built can be filled and temps-d, which means are simple in construction, strong and durable, permit ot' readily erecting and readily detaehing the side Walls, and do not require the use of e2ipensive braces and struts, and hence donot occupy inn ch space.
In the accompanying drawings, in which like letters of reference indicate like parts in all the theatres, Figure 1 is an cuter side view of part of the wooden side Wall for making a concrete Wall. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse sectional View through a concrete Wall partly iinished and tl ongh the easing and framing vfor the saine.
In making Walls 0i? concrete or of mixture of cement or lime and sand, cinders, broken stones, and the like this mixture, While inoist to a greater or less eltent, is 'filled into a pocket or box the transverse dimensions of which are equal to the desired thickness ot the Wall, and in this pocket this mixture is thoroughly tainped, so as toforce out all air and to caisse :in intimate Contact of all the partie es oi the mixture. For the purpose of erecting the Wall vertically and keeping it in ro )er sha e the boards or nlanliin which iorin the sides of this pocket are secured to uprights, which in tcrn must be held rinly in position, so as to prevent their 'spreading under the weight ofthe composition iilled in between them and under the eilect of the blows delivered in talnping.
