ClGAR-PERFORATOR.
No. seasso.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 29,1907.
Application filed August 24,1906- Serial No. 331.836.
T0 at whmn it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES G. DOHERTY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Waterbury, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cigar-Perforators and I do hereby declare. the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in
Figure l, a side view of a cigar-perforator constructed in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2, a vertical central sectional view of the same, illustrating a cigar inserted thereinto Fig. 3, a top or plan view; Fig. 4, a top or plan view of the plug detached; Fig.5, a side view of the same.
This invention relates to an improvement in perforators for cigars-that is, a device for piercing the ends of a cigar, so that it will draw-the object of the invention being the arrangement of a simple device particularly adapted for use on counters at cigar-stands and other similar places; and the invention consists in the construction as hereinafter described, and particularly recited in the claim.
In carrying out my invention I employ a block or body 2 of any approved shape and designed and formed from wood or metal. Extending longitudinally through the center of the box is a passage 3, made slightly smaller at its lower end, which is closed by a plug 4, provided with three upwardly-projecting pins 5, which extend into the passage 3. The upper face of the block is concaved, forming a recess 6,within which are secured three springfingers 7, which extend down into the passage 3 to a point slightly above the tops of the pins 5. p
In use a cigar is inserted butt downward into the passage 3 and forced down onto the pins 5, which perforate the end of the cigar around the tip, the springs 3 guiding the cigar onto the pins 5 and adapting the device for use with various sizes of cigars.
This device is exceedingly simple in construction, can be produced at a very low cost for manufacture, and, if desired, may be made exceedingly ornamental.
While I prefer to mount the pins in the plug and insert that plug in .the bottom of the passage, it is apparent without illustration that the plug might be formed integral with the body and the pins inserted upward through it.
I claim A cigar-perforator comprising a block-like body having a longitudinal central passage, a plug closing one end of the passage, pins in said plug and extending therefrom into said passage, a plurality of independent springfingers secured to the top of the body around said passage the free ends of the fingers extending into the same and terminating at a point above the upper ends of said pins, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
. JAMES G. DOHERTY. Witnesses:
