Be it known that I, RALPH H. JONES, a

citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements .in Corner-Post Construction for Show-Windows, of which the following is a specification. This invention relates to corner-posts, transom-bars, or mullions adapted for the support of the glass plates of show or display windows or cases and for other purposes for which it is found applicable.

The invention aims to set up a support of the character referred to with means, as hereinafter set forth, for reinforcing the wooden body portion of the support, thereby increasing the strength and rigidity thereof.

The invention further aims to set up a support of the character referred to in a manner as hereinafter set forth, thereby decreasing the back lines of the support whenthe same is secured in supporting position. l

The invention further aims to set up a sup'- port of the class referred to in a manner, 'as hereinafter set forth, so that. the contour of the interior of the support when set up in supporting -position will be substantially the same as the contour of the exterior, thereby improving the appearance of the support.

The invention further aims to provide a support of the class referred to with means, as hereinafter set forth, associated with the inner trim or jacket of the support to form a -1 pocket for the leading-in wires of an incandescent-lamp socket carried by the inner trim.

Theinvention-further aims to provide a support of the classreferred to with means carried by the outer trim or jacket, which is adapted to extend through the wooden body portion and reinforcing means of the support and carrying clamping elements for rigidly securing` the said trim or jacket, body portion, and reinforcing means together. The invention further aims to provide a corner-post', transom-bar, or mullion for the purpose set forthA which shall be simple in construction, strong, durable, efficient in use, readily set up, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.`

With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists of the novel construction, combination, and arrangement oi parts hereinafter more specifically described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this speciiica tion, and wherein is shown the preferred embodiment of the invention; but it is to be understood that changes, variations, and modications can be resorted to which come y within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.

In describing the invention in detailreferi ence is had to the accompanying drawings, wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several ,of a corner-post. 1n accordance with this liiivention, showing portions of the twowindow-glass plates connected therewith.

Referring to the drawings by reference characters, 1 denotes the body portion of suitable wood, which is provided on opposlingsides with the angular recesses 2, on the innelf'part with-a curved recess 3, and with a lurality of bores 4, which extend from iront to rear of the body portion and each of which has a countersunk outer vend 5.

In order to strengthen and impart the desired rigidity to the body-portion 1, a curved metallic reinforcing member 7 is rovided, which is seated in the recess 3 an has the ends thereof flush with the periphery of the' body portion 1.,- The said reinforcing member 7 is secured to the body ortion 1 in a manner as hereinafter set fort 'The glass plates, the edges of which are to be joined and which are indicated by the reference character 8, are adapted to have their adjacent edge portions inserted, as shown, in i fr. That part of the body por-tion 1 extending outwardly from the lates. 8 is termed the outer portion, While the part ofthe body ortion 1 which extends inwardly from t e plates S is termed the inner portion. The outerportion andrabbet-stri s 9 are inelosed by a jacket or trim 11 of suitable metallic material, preferably brass, Which conforms in shape to the contour of the outer portion of the body 1. AThe jacket or trim 11, body portion 1, and reinforcing member 7 are secured together through the medium of a plurality of holdf-astdevices in the form of sectional clamps. lOne :section of the clamps is indicated by the reference character 12, and the other section of each of the clamps is indicated by the reference character 13. Each of the .sections 12 consists of a short bolt havin a head, as `at 14., and a screw-threaded portion 15. The head end of each of the bolts is formed integral with the inner face of the jacket or trim 11, and the said bolts extend through the bores 4, the heads 1 4 seating in the countersunk ends 5 of the bores. The bolts are of such length as to extend through the reinforcing member 7 and carry upon the screw-threaded portions 15 thereof the sections 13 of the clamps. The sections 13 are in the form of binding-nuts.

The reinforcing member`7, as well as the inner portion of the body 1, is inclosed by an inner trim or jacket 16, substantially curved in cross-section'vformed of metallic material, preferably brass, which constitutes a continuation of the body portion.x

The trim or jacket 16 in .connection with the reinforcing member 7 forms a pocket 16a for the leading-in Wires 16b for an incandescent-lamp socket 17, connected to the trim lor jacket 16. The latter is provided with a screw-threaded recess or opening 18 to receive an interiorly and exteriorly screwthreaded bushing 19, which forms a means for coupling the'socket 17 to the trim or jacket 16. The latter' has secured to` its inner face a suitable insulating material 20 for the leading-in Wires 16". Although the trim or jacket 16 is shown as provided with means for coupling a lamp-socket thereto,

and, further, With an insulating material, the said coupling means and insulating material can be dispensed with. The trim or jacket 1-6 is secured to the ninforcing member 7.

The `construction of the partition-rail shown in Fig. 6 is the same as the structure shown in Fig. 1, with the exception that each end of the reinforcingr member 22 is provided with an angularly-extendin projectionZS, projecting from the end .of t e rail and seating against the reinforcing member 7 of the post. The projections 23 are secured to the reinforcin member 7 of the corner-posts by suitable oldfast devices'24. Otherwise than as .stated the construction of the' .afrtitiowrail shown in Fig; 6 is the same as t post shown in Fig. 1, with the exception that the walls 25 .of the-angular .recesses in the body portion 1 extend at right angles with respect to `the Wall 26 of the said recesses.A f

Among the important features of the inventionls that not only does the reinforcing member 7 stien and increase .the strength and rigidity of the body portion 1 and prevent warping or distortion, but the outer metallic trim also acts as a means to increase the strength and rigidityof the said body portion 1 owing to the manner in which the trim or jacket is secured in position. The outer trim -or jacket .also acts as a means for retaining the filling or rab'bet strips in position if the holdfast devices therefor should become loosened, as the said vtrim or jacket is connected with the reinforcing .member and not .to the body portion 1.

From the fore oing description, taken in connection with tie accompanying drawings, it will be readily seen that a .corner-post, .transom-bar., .or mullion is provid-ed which is exceedingly strong and rigid and will therefore withstand the pressure of the heavy glass plates which are ordinarily used in conneetion therewithwhich is dust and water proof, Which will not Warpand distort, and, furthermore. the construction of the post, bar, or mullion exhibits an improved appearance over the form of such supports now in general use.

Having thus fully .described the invention, What I claim, anddesire to secure by Letters- Patent, is-

1. A support of the character described comprising a body portion, an outer trim therefor, a reinforcing member for'said body portion, and means carried by the trim and extending through the body portion and said member for clamping the reinforcing member to the body portion and the body portion to the trim. l A

A support of the. character described comprising a body portion, an outer trim therefor, a reinforcing member for said body portion, means carried by the trim and extending through thebody portion and, said member for clamping `the reinforcing member to the body portion and the body portion to the trim, an inner trim, and means for-connecting the inner trim to said reinforcing member.

A support of the character described comprising a body portion having a plurality of bores with countersunk outer ends, an outer trim for the body portion, a reinforcing member for said body portion, headed bolts formed integral at one end with the inner face of the trim, extending through said bores and reinforcing member and having the heads thereof seated in the countersunk ends of the bores, means mounted upon the free end of said bolts for clamping the reinforcing member to said body portion and the same body portion to said trim, an inner trim, and means for connecting the inner trim to said reinforcving member.

A support ofI the character described comprising a body portion, an outer trim therefor, a reinforcing member for said body portion, means carried by the trim and extending through the body portion and said member for clamping the reinforcing member to the body portion and the body portion to the trim, an inner trim means for connecting the inner trim to said reinforcing member, said inner trim and said member constituting 5s a pocket for leading-in Wires, and means carried by the inner trim for coupling a lampsocket thereto.

A support of the character. described comprising a body portion having a plurality of bores With countersunk outer ends, an outer trim for the body portion, a reinforcing 'member for said body portion, headed bolts formed integral at one end With the inner face of the trim, extending through said bores and reinforcing member and having the heads thereof seated in the countersunlr ends of the bores, means mounted upon thefree end of said bolts ifor clamping the reinforcing member to said body portion and the said body portion to said trim, an inner trim, means for connecting the inner trim to said reinforcing member, said inner trim andsaid member constituting a pocket for leading-in Wires and means carried by the inner trim for coupling a lamp-socket thereto.

A support of the character described comprising a body portion, an outer trim therefor, a reinforcing member for said body portion, means carried by the trim and extending through uthe body portion and said member for clamping the'reinforcing member to the body portion and the body portion to the trim, an inner trim, means for connecting the inner trim to said reinforcing member, said inner trim and said fmemb er constituting a pocket for leading-in Wires, and means carried by the inner trim for coupling a lampsocket thereto, and anl insulating. material secured to the inner face of said inner trimi 8. A support of the character described comprising a body portion having a plurality of bores with countersunk outer ends, an outer trim for thebody portion, a reinforcing member for said body portion, headed bolts formed integral at one end with the inner face of the trim, extending through said bores and reinforcing member and having the heads thereof seated in the countersunk ends of the bores, means mounted upon the free end of said bolts .for clamping the reinforcing member to said body portion and the said body portion to said trim, an inner trim, means for connecting the ,inner trim to said reinforcing member, said inner trim and said member constituting a pocket for leading-in Wires, and means carried by the inner trim for coupling a lamp-socket thereto, and an insulating material secured to the inner face of said inner trim.

A support of the character described comprising a body portion having a plurality of bores and a curved recess in its inner side, said bores having a countersunk outer end, an outer trimV for the body portion, a reinforcin member'seated in said recess, headed bolts ormed integral at one end with the inner face of the trim extending through said bores and member and having the heads thereof seated in the countersunk ends of the bores, means mounted upon the free end of said bolts for clampin the member to the body portion and the ody-portion to Said trim, an inner trim, and means for connectigig the inner trim to said reinforcing memers.

A support of the character described comprising a body portion having aplurality of bores and a curved recess in its inner side, said bores having a countersunk outer end, an outer trim for the body portion, a reinforcing member seated in said recess, headed bolts formed integral at one end with the inner face of the trim, extending through said bores and member and havin the heads thereoi1 seated in the countersun ends of the bores, means mounted upon the free end of said bolts for clamping the member to the body portion and the body portion to said trim, an inner trim, and means for connecting the inner trim to said reinforcing member, said inner trim and said member constituting a pocket for leading-in wires, and means carriedby the trim for coupling a lamp-socket thereto.
