Description

No 848,015. PATENTBD MAR. 26, 1907 F. S. DILWORTH.
TOILET POWDER SIFTER.
APPLICATION FILED DEC. 2, 1905 Y Inventor. EjgiZwm-fi.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OF WELLAND, ONTARIO, CANADA.
TOILET-POWDER SIFTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 26, 1907. Y
Application filed December 2,1905. Serial No. 290,026.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK SHIRLEY DILWORTH, of the town of Welland, in the county of Welland, in. the Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toilet-Powder Sifters, of which the following is the specification.
My invention relates to improvements in toilet-powder sifters; and the object of the invention is to provide a simple, cheap, and efficient sifter in which the perforations or openings will be always closed except when the sifter is being used; and it consists, essentially, ofa sifter provided with a lid having a substantially rectangular top provided with perforations, a slide provided with perforations, and spring means for holding such slide normally closed Within the rectangular top, one end of the slide being designed to extend throfigh a slit in the end of the top and having a handle whereby the slide may be manipulated, the parts being arranged and constructed as hereinafter more particu larly explained.
Figure 1 is a perspective View of myiimroved toilet-powder sifter. Fig. 2 is an enarged sectional view of the top of the can an lid. Fig. 3 is a cross-section at right angles to the sections shown in Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a detail of the slide.
In the drawings like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
A is the can.
B is the lid.
C is the rectangular portion preferably made of such shape for the purpose of my invention. The rectangular projecting portion C is suitably soldered or otherwise secured in an opening in the lid B and is provided with perforations C and an end slit C.
D is a slide which is provided with referably an S-shaped spring D, attache to or forming part of the same at one end and a manipulating curled handle or knob D, whereby the slide maybe mani ulated. The slide D is placed in position be ore the handle D is curled, and the spring D, extends into a recess formed at one end of the top C. The slide D is provided with perforations corresponding in number and position to the perforations in the top, so that they register with the same when the slide is pressed inwardly by the handle D When the slide is forced outwardly by the spring D, the perforations pass underneath the plane portion of the top, and thereby all egress of the owder is prevented. Not onlythis, but the ossof strength and aroma of the powder is effectually obviated.
Although Ishow my invention as applied to a toilet-powder sifter, it will of course be understood that it may be with eipal facility applied to other receptacles of a li e nature.
What I claim as my invention is The combination with theperforated rectangular top having a slot at one end, of a perforated rectangular slide havin an S- shaped spring formed at one end an the opposite end extending through the slot and orming a fpressure-handle as and for the purpose speci ed.-
