PATENTED FEB. 12, 1907.
ATTORNEYS L L. GARSIDB. BLIND ADJUSTER.
APPLICATION I'IVLED APR. 20, 1906. v
- States Letters Patent No. 712,665, dated Nonnrrnn srarnsgairnnr orrron IRAD L. GARSIDE, OF PATERSON, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO THE GARSIDE MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF PATERSON, NEW JERSEY, A CORPORA- TION OF NEW JERSEY.
BLIND-ADJUSTER.
Specification of Letters Patent. I Patented Feb. 12, 1907.
Application filed April 20, 1906. Serial No. 312.851.
wall p of the raised portion m and the rebent portion n is set a rivet g. The arm e has its free end introduced between the wall p and the rebent portion n and is pivoted on the rivet Q. By further striking up the rebent portion n in stamping out the bracket a countersink r for the top head of the rivet and a boss s are formed on the top and under sides of, respectively, the rebent portion n, boss s serving to keep the arm c bearing squarely against the top face of wall p. The outer edge of the rebent portion n is turned downwardly as a flange t. The edge of this Harige is in approximately the same plane as the under surface of the boss s, so that the arm e may bear squarely against said fiange in any position of said arm.
The arm c is preferably bent at a point somewhat radially beyond the flange t of the bracket to form a shoulder at u. This shoulder is about as high as the top surface of the rebent portion n of the bracket, so that a washer o may rest squarely against said shoulder and the top of the rebent portion n. The washer o is mounted on a screw u1, which is set in the arm between the shoulder u and the rebent portion of the bracket, and when a thumb-nut a2, mounted on said screw, is turned down on the screw against the washer, the latter coacts with the head of the screw to clamp the edge portion of the rebent portion n between the arm and the washer. The screw has also a head z at its upper end to prevent the removal of the thumb-nut.
By arranging and constructing the parts substantially as shown herein the blind may be adjusted to any variety of positions with the least inconvenience, and when once secured to any position by clamping the arm e to the bracket in the manner described all lost motion, so far as the adjuster is concerned, is reduced to the minimum.
To cir/ZZ whom t may concern.-
Be it known that I, IRAD L. GArtsIDE, a l citizen of the United States, residing in Patl erson, county of Passaic, State of New Jerj sey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in`Blind-Adjusters,l and I do l hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to j which it appertains to make and use the, same, reference being had to the accompanye ing drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to blind-adjusters of the general type illustrated in my United vember 4, 1902; and it consists in certain improvements materially cheapening the construction of such devices and rendering them much more positive in action and easy to manipulate.
My invention will be found fully illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure l is a horizontal sectional view through a window-casing, showing my improved blind-adjuster in plan. Fig. 2 is a full-sized view in elevation of the adjuster, showing the same from the inside thereof 5 and Fig. 3 shows certain of the parts partly in section and partly in elevation, the section being taken in a central plane of the main I bracket at right angles to the window-frame.
In the drawings, a is the window-frame, the blind, and c its hinge.
e and f are two pivotally-connected folding arms, the former of which has its-free end pivoted to the horizontal portion r/ of a bracket 7L, secured to the blind, as by screws t, and the latter f of which is adapted to be pivotally connected with the window-frame and adjustably secured vin various positions by the mechanism now to be described.
y' is a bracket having abase 7c, (whereby by means of screws Z it may be secured to the sill of the window-frame,) an integral raised hollow portion m open at the back, as seen in Figs. 2 and 3, and an integral rebent portion n. This bracket may be cast 5 but it is preferably stamped out of a single sheet of metal. The rebent portion n has substantially the form of a disk and is concentrically reinforced by an arc-shaped rib o, which is struck up in stamping out the bracket. In the top and in what manner the same 1s to be performed, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination of a bracket adapted to be secured to a window-frame and having a substantially horizontal portion, a pivoted arm movable in a plane parallel with said horizontal portion, and a clamping device arranged in the arm radially beyond said horizontal portion and outside of said bracket Having thus fully described my invention and adapted to clamp the edge oi the latter to said arm, substantially as described.
2. The combination of a bracketl adapted to be secured to a window-frame and having a substantially horizontal portion, a pivoted arm movable in a plane parallel with said horizontal portion and having a shoulder disposed radially beyond said horizontal portion, and a clamping device arranged in the arm between said shoulder and said horizontal portion and adapted to act against said horizontal portion and the shoulder, on the one hand, and the arm on the other hand, to clamp the edge oi said portion to said arm, substantially as described.
3. The combination of a bracket adapted to be secured to a window-frame and having a substantially horizontal portion, an arm pivoted in said horizontal portion and projecting under the same, said arm having a shoulder on its upper side radially beyond said horizontal portion, and a clampingr device having,I one part thereof arranged in th arm between said horizontal portion and the shoulder and another part adapted to bear against the top said horizontal portion, whereby to clamp the edge of said horizontal portion to the arm, substantially as describe of said shoulder and the top oi' 4;. The combination of a bracket adapted to be secured to a window-iframe and coniprising, integrally formed, a base portion, a i raised portion, and a substantially horizontal rebent portion disposed above said raised portion, a pivot mounted in said raised portion i and said rebent portion, an arm having a bearingq on said pivot, and means for clamping said arni to the rebent portion, substantially as described.
5. rThe combination of a bracket adapted to be secured to a window-frame and coinprising, integrally formed, a base portion, a raised portion, and a substantially .horizontal rebent portion disposed above said raised portion, an arm having 'one end extending in between said raised portion and the rebent portion, a pivot arranged in said bracket and l forming a bearing;q for said end of said arm,
and means for clamping said arm to the resubstantially as described.
that l claim the foregoing I hand this 18th day of bent portion, In testimony have hereunto set my I April, 1906.
i iRAD L. GARsiDE.
