Description

No. 833,127. PATENTED OUT. 9, 1906. E. DEHLER. CEMENT FENCE POST. APPLICATION FILED MAYZB, 1906.
Witnesses I PATENT OFFICE.
' EDWARD DEHLER, or WoNEwoc, WISCONSIN.
CEMENT FENCE-POST.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented. Oct. 9, 1906.
Application filed May 26,1906. Serial No- 318,872.
T0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD DEHLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wonewoc, in the county of Juneau and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cement Fence-Posts, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to cement fenceposts; and its primary object is to provide a device of this character which is constructed to permit the line-wires of a fence to be readily and quickly secured thereto, one which is simple and durable, and one which may be manufactured and sold ata comparatively low cost. i
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, where- 1n Figure 1 is a perspective of a fence-post constructed in accordance with my invention, and Fig. 2 is a transverse section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1 looking in the direction indicated by the arrow.
Referring to the drawings by referencenumerals, 2 designates a cement fence-post which has one of its edges inclined upwardly and rearwardly in the direction of the longitudinal center of the post. The inclination of one edge of the post provides a broad base and permits the post to be manufactured out of the minimum amount of material and at the minimum cost and yet possess the maximum degree of strength. The inclined edge of the post is formed to provide a plurality of projections 3, which are spaced at equal distances apart. The post is provided with a plurality of openings 4, which extend therethrough at right angles with relation to the faces thereof. The openings 4 have a vertical extent equal to that of the projections 3 and are arranged to respectively position their upper and lower walls in the planes of the upper and lower surfaces of the projections 3. The line-wires 5 are secured to the post by tie members 6, which are constructed of single strands of wire bent into U shape.
Each tie member is applied to straddle the line-wire and position one of its arms in one of the openings 4 and the other of its arms in engagement with either the upper or lower surfaces of the projections 3, after which the free ends of the tie member are secured together to retain it in applied position. As each of the openings 4 has a vertical extent equal to that of each projection 3 and arranged to position its upper and lower walls in the planes of the surfaces of the projection 3, each tie member may be moved in the opening to position one of its arms in engagement with either of the surfaces of the projection, thus permitting the line-wires to be spaced at varying distances apart.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and mode of operation of the invention should be understood without a further extended description.
Changes in the form, proportions, and minor details of construction may be made within the scope of the claim without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
Having fully described and illustrated my invention, what I claimis A fence-post having one of its edges formed to provide spaced projections, said post being provided with openings having vertical extents equal to those of the projections and arranged to position their upper and lower walls in the planes of the upper and lower surfaces of the projections, and tie members adapted to secure line-wires to the post, one arm of each tie member passing through one of the openings and the other arm thereof engaging either the upper or lower surface of one of the projections, the tie members being relatively adjustable upon the post to support line-wires at varying distances apart.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EDWARD DEHLER.
