' Improvements in Plows and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same This invention relates to plows, and more particularly to hillside-plows of the type disclosed in my Patent No. 792,184, dated June 13, 1905, and one of the principal objects of the same is to provide means for quickly and accurately changing the draft-line to regulate the depth of the furrow.
Another object is to-provide a clevis in which the draft-line may be adjusted quickly and accurately. 7
Another object is to provide in a hillside or double-ended plow means for shifting the point of draft from one end of the beam to the other.
These and other objects are attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a plow provided with my improvements. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the clevis. Fig. 3 is a similar view of the cross-b ar, to which the draft-link is attached. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the lever for adjusting the depth of the furrow. Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of a brace and guide for the beam-latch. Fig. 6 is a perspective view of one of the members of the clevis, and Fig. 7 is a front elevation of the ground-wheel and its supporting-bar.
Referring to the drawings for a more particular description of my invention, the numeral 1 designates the main plow-beam.
2 represents the standards, 3 represents the .moldboards, and 4 represents the points of the plows. The handles 5 are secured to the beam and standards and are provided with legs 6 and braces 7, which form a support for the handles when the plow is not in use. At the side of the main beam 1 a supplemental beam 1 (shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1) is pivoted centrally, as at 8, and upon the end of said supplemental beam the draft-clevis is secured. A block 9, forming a continuation of the main beam 1, serves as a support for the clevis, and a lever is provided for adjusting the same.

cured to the block 9 is an upright guide 14, and a lever 15, extending back to within reach of the driver, passes through an aperture in said upright, and the front forked end of said lever is connected to the cross-bar 16 by means of a bolt 17, which passes through the slots in the clevis members and through the holes in the forked ends of the lever. A draft-link 18 is connected to the cross-bar. The lever may thus be operated to change the draft-line and regulate the depth of the furrow.
The draft-link 18 may be shifted from one of the notches X to the other X in the bar 16 when the plow is used as a two-horse implement. When three horses are used, the draft-link 18 may be pivotally' secured by a pin centrally in the bar 16.
The ground-wheel a is journaled on the lower end of a support I) and is permitted to turn in a horizontal plane. The support I) is provided with forwardly-projecting lugs 0, having slots (1, through which the bolt 17 extends. At the upper end of the support 1) slots c are provided, and secured to the top of .block 9 are a pair of forwardly-projecting plates f, the ends of which are reduced to extend through the slots e, and thus limit the movement of the support I).
Pivoted at one side of the main beam 1 is a bell-crank lever 19, provided with a hook 20 at its free end adapted to engage the eye in the rear end of one of the members of the clevis. A connecting-bar 21 is attached to the upper end of the elbow-lever and extends back to an upright lever 22, rising from the top of the main beam near the center thereof. The connecting-rod 21 has secured to it a guide-bar 23, provided with a pin 24 at its upper end and an elongated pin 25 at its lower end, said pin being secured to the bar 23 by a keeper 26. Then the handles 5 are secured firmly in place at either end of the beam when the lever 22 is operated to connect the clevis to the front or opposite end of the beam. A lug 27 on the side of thebeam serves as a guide for the pin 25, while the upper pin 24 when moved toward the clevis is The clevis consists of two members, one of which is provided with an This member is bolt-' adapted to engage an aperture 28 in an upright guide-bar 29, secured at the side of the beam. It will be seen that as the lever 22 is operated to release the pin from the eye in the clevis member the supplemental beam 1 may be swung upon its pivot from one end of the beam to the other when it is desired to use one or the othe rof the plows. It will also be obvious that the depth of the furrow may be quickly adjusted by means of the clevis-lever. A pin 39 is adapted to pass through a plate 31, projecting forwardly from the end of the main beam, for securing the block 9 in place as a continuation of the main beam. When one of the plows is being oper ated, the other may be supported to rest lightly on the ground by means of the braces and legs 7, as shown in Fig. 1.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention may be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention as defined by the appended claims. 4
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a hillside-plow, a beam, two plows connected thereto and projecting in opposite directions, a supplemental beam pivoted centrally to the main beam, a block secured to the end of said supplemental beam, clevises secured to said block, and means for connecting said block to and disconnecting said block from the ends of the main beam, substantially as described.
2. In a plow, a main beam, a supplemental beam pivoted thereto, a clevis carried by the supplemental beam, said clevis provided with an eye, an elbow-lever pivoted to the main beam and provided with a pin adapted to engage said eye, a connecting-rod connected to said elbow-lever, a guide and brace connected to said rod and provided with forwardly-proscribed.
