TOOL-HOLDER.
Application filed October Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 4, 1906.
6.1905. Renewed June 26,1906. Serial No. 323,531.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN F. Ronns, a citizen of the United St ates, residing at Echo in the county of Umatilla and State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tool-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, i and exact description of'the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to holders for tools, such as rakes or hoes; and it consists in the novel construction and combination of the l arts hereinafter fully described and clainied.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of the tool-holder. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sec-. tion through the socket, drawn to a larger scale. Fig. 3 is an end view of the socket.
A is a metallic socket provided with spring jaws b and c. i
B is a distance-piece at the middle part of the socket between the two jaws, and this distance-piece is provided with a longitudinal hole d.
The j aws b are concave-convex and straight, and the jaws c are inclined or curved at an angle to the jaws b.
D is a wooden handle, which is inserted between the jaws and secured by means of screws e or other approved fastening devices. The end portion of he handle D is provided with a centering pro ecting cone f, of smaller diameter than the main portion of the handle, and this conical projection is inserted in the hole d.
- and means for F is a tool, such as a fork, rake, hoe, or any other approved tool. The shank of this tool is inserted in the jaws c and is secured by bolts 9 or other approved fastening devices. The jaws spring slightly when the clamping or fastening bolts or screws are tightened up, so that the handle and the shank of the tool are held securely in position, and the handle or the tool may be removed and replaced as often as desired.
WVhat I claim is-- 1. In a tool-holder, the combination, with a socket provided with spring-jaws at eac end and having a distance-piece at its middle portion provided with a longitudinal hole, of a handle engaging with the jaws at one end of the socket and provided with a conical projection which engages with the said hole, v securing the handle and a tool between the said jaws.
2. In a tool-holder, the combination, with a socket provided with straight concavo-convex jaws at one end, inclined jaws at its other end, and a distance-piece at its middle portion between the said jaws; of a handle engaging with the said concavo-convex jaws, and means for securing the handle and a tool between the jaws.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
BENJAMIN F. RODES.
