WVILLIAM H. SMITH, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
COMPOSITION OF MATTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 4, 1906.
Application filed August 16,1906. Serial No. 330,859.
To aZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia) and 5 State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Im rovements in Composition of Matter, of which the following is a specification.
My composition consists of the following ingredients: stearic acid, three per cent;
In preparing the above compound first dissolve the nitrocellulose in the acetone and 1 matter for making artificial leather, consistthen add the stearic acid, Chinese wood-oil, (tungoil,) pigment, and pulverized leather and mix thoroughly over a gentle heat. The
pigment determines the color and must be used with this object in view.
The object of the above composition is to prepare the surface in the making of artificial In applying the composition in the making of this leather I provide a mixingtank containing a bath of the material or composition when mixed, feeding-rollers, and a series of rollers for imprinting the leather design or imitation on the surface of thecovered fabric.
By the use of the above composition a fabric-ground can be made to imitate leather and not only imitate the leather, but the character of the fabric in point of service and usefulness is increased and it has the practical service qualities and appearance of leather.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
1. The herein described composition of matter, consisting of stearic acid, Chinese wood-oil (tung-oil), acetone, nitrocellulose, pigment and pulverized leather, as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The hereindescribed composition of ing of stcaric acid three parts, Chinese woodoil (tung-oil) five parts, acetone fifty parts,
nitrocellulose twenty parts, pigment twelveparts and pulverized leather ten parts, as set out for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
