- UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE. I ARTHUR P; WiT EN, OF AKROIQI, 'oHro.
' FINGER-Q01. I
Specification of Letters Patent. v Application filed September 1 1, 1906. Serial 110.277.83 1.
Patented Nov. 13, 1906.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ARTHUR'P. WITTEN, a citizenof the United St ates, residing at Akron, in the county of Summit and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Finger-Cots; and I do declare that'the following is a full, clear, and exactdescription of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
' My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in fingercots, all substantially particularly pointed out in the claims;
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the cot inflated to clearly discl'ose'its shape and outlines. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view thereof with a finger thereinin dotted lines to show its manher of use. i
As thus disclosed, the invention consists in a finger-cot which is more especially designed for felons and has certain original and distinguishin features, com rising a relatively large and aggy or barre -sha'ped body portion' 2, a comparatively narrow entrance or opening at one end provided with a reinforcing-ring 3, and a bulb 4, constituting a prolongation or extension on the cot as such.
from shpping or worln'n ofl. Upon the outer end. 0 the cot itself l pro-' 'vide a bulb 4, which reall T he.said body 2'is purposely enlarged to about the proportions shown as compared with its contracted ends, so as to afford room for the usual oultice and wrap ings upon the afilicted er and, being e astic, may also stretch somewhatrfor this urpose, if
more room' be needed; but ordinarily the natural size ofthe said body will afford all the accommodation needed in these particulars, and the reinforcing-ring or contracted opening 3 serves to en age the cot a out the base ofthe er and prevent it is supplemental to the cot and is especially e'signed to receive discharge from the afilicted parts and/for this closely purpose may be left open or may contain a' sponge or the like, if thought best, or said bulb may be used'for purposes of medication in cases other than felons, such as cuts, burns, bruises, and other sores on fingers. However, the invention is chiefly designed as a by a process of dipping and is very thin and light, but strong and not easily torn, and can be cleansed and used for an indefiniteperiod.
What I claim is- 1. As a new article of manufacture, a fin ger-cot having a body of flexible material terminating at one end in a narrowed open- I mg, and an externally-closed bulbous exten-' sion communicating with the body.
, 2. As a new article of manufacture, an
elastic finger-cot comprising a finger portion of greatest cross-section between its ends, a
flexible bulbous portion at its outer end and a flexible neck portionconnecting said finger and bulbous portions and open to both.
3. As a new article of manufacture, a flexible film-like elastic-rubber finger-cot having a reinforced compression-ring at its entrance and a bulbous extension at the other open thereto, the body of the cot being of greater cross-section than its ends and the entire article made in one piece.
In testimony whereof I sign this specifics tion the presence of two witnesses.
