small compass and thereafter-be quickly assembled and secured to ether' into a completesectional unit of suc a bookcase; and it consists of novel features of construction of parts and combinations of the same, as will e more fully described hereinafter, and s ecically pointed out in the claims appen ed hereto.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, Figure 1 is an isometrical perspective view of the posts of a single case-section and crownpiece of a sectional bookcase embodying our invention ready to be assembled and secured together to form a unit of such a bookcase. Figs. 18L and 1b are isometrical perspective views of the two upper pieces shown in Fig. 1 upside down. Fig. 2 is a horizontal central cross #section of a complete case-section formed by securing the parts shown in Fig. 1 together. Fig. 3 is a cross-section at the dotted line 3 3 in Fig. 2 ofa complete case-section. Fig. 4 is an enlarged cross-section at the dotted line 4 4 in Fig. 2 of a complete case-section. Fi 5 is a detail view to be referred to hereinaV er.y Fig. 6 is an enlarged .sectional detail to be referred to hereinafter.
Fig. 7 is a vertical cross-section showing de tails to be referred to hereinafter.
A Like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views. A is the base of a case-section having back and end grooves A A2 and mortises A3 A4 countersunk into the upper side thereof.
B re resents corner-posts provided with tenons on each end and having longitudinal grooves B2 B3 in the inner and adjacent sides thereof. B4 re resents corner-posts provided with tenons 5 on each end and having longitudinal grooves B and door-rabbets B in the inner and adjacent sides thereof. Y
C is the top of a case-section having back and end grooves C C2 and mortises C"J C4 countersunk into the under side thereof.
D D are back and end grooves, and D2 D5- mortises countersunk into the upper side of the top C.; v
, The tenons B on the lower. ends 2of the posts B are inserted into the mortises A4 in the base A.` The tenons B5 on the lower ends of the posts Bl are .inserted into the mortises Ain the base A.
E is the back ofthe case-section and is of such dimensions as to it into the grooves A B3 in the base A and posts B, respectively.
E represents the ends of the case-section and are of such dimensions as to fit into the` grooves A2 B2 B6 in the base A and posts B B4, res ectively.
he tenons B on the upper ends of the post B and the tenons B5 on the upiper ends of the posts B4 project and fit into t e corresponding mortises CB C4 in the top C. The upper edges of the back E and ends E also roect and fit into the corresponding grooves 2 in the underside of the top C. F represents rods inserted through th centers of the'mortises in the base A and top C and are included in and extendalong the bottoms of the grooves B2 Be in the posts B B4 to secure all of said parts together.
F represents nuts applied to the .corre-y spondingly-threaded en s of the rods F.
F2 represents washers fitting into the :mortises D2 D3 in the upper side of the top C.
F3 represents screws passed through the washers F2 and turned into corres ondinglythreaded openings F4 in the rods G is a crown-piece having tongues G G2, adapted to enter and engage with the corresponding grooves D D in the upper side of t e t p C.
H is the door of the case-section and is pivotall and slidably connectedwith the grooves H t erein by means of the intles H2, projecting thereinto from the en s thereof.
Having fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,fis-` 1. In a case-section of` a sectional bookoase, in combination, a base A having back and end grooves A A2 and `mortises A3 A4 countersunk into the up er side thereof, a top C having correspon ing back and end grooves C C2 and mortises Cs C* countersunk into the underside thereof, corner-posts B B4 provided with tenons B B5 inserted into cor- IIO resionding mortises As A4 C5 C in the base A an to C, respective] and having rooves B2 B3 therein, a baal; E and ends fitted into the grooves A C A2 C2, means for securing all of said parts together, and a, door H pivotally and lidabl connected with said. case, substantial y as escribed.
2. In a case-section of a sectional bookcase, in combination, a base A having back and end grooves A A2 and mortises ASK A4 countersunk into the up er side thereof, a top lC having correspon ing back and end grooves C C* and mortises C3 C countersunk mto the under side thereof, comer-posts B B4 esame provided with tenons B B5 inserted into corresponding mortises A3 A'4 C3 C* the base A and to C, respectiveli, and havin ooves l?,2 IBs 3 therein, a bac E and ends fitted into the grooves A C A? C, rods F inserted throuh the centers of the mortises in the 2o base and top C and included in the grooves B2 B, to secure all of said parts together, and a door H pivotally and slidably connected therewith, substantially as described.
