Description

ai tlnited iiil WA l @wat l @that i t 'GEORGE K. PROCTOR, OF SALEM, MASSACHUSETTS.
Letters Patent No. 83,545, dated October 27, 1868.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom tt 'may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE K. Pnoc'roR, of Salem, in the county of Essex, and State of .Massachusetts have invented a new and useful Improvement in Photographing Rooms; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure l is an internal view of my invention.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal central section of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
The invention consists in constructing a room or apartment for photographing-purposes, in such amanner, or of such a form, that the rays of light from a lamp, placed within said room or apartment,'will be reflected and concentrated upon the person or object to be photographed, so that photographing may be successfully performed at night by artificial light, or other than that of the sun.
In the accompanying sheet of drawings, A represents the` room or apartment, in which the person or objectto be photographed is placed. This room or apartment is of oval form, and elongated, so as to have an internal curved surface, which will refiect the rays of light from a lamp, or other luminary, at a, upon a person or object, say at b. e
An opening is made in the curved end of the room or apartment, as shown at c, for the end of the camera (shown in red) topass through, and the other end of the room or apart-ment is open to admit of the ordinary background, for the picture to be placed in proper position relatively with the person or object to be photographed.
For a light, any ordinary lamp may be used for focusing, but for illuminating the interior, and concentrating rays of light upon the person or object for photographing, I use magnesium (I, placed upon pins, which gives a powerful light, and answers excellently well.
The magnesium is lighted through a hole, f, in the room or apartment.
This invention has been practically tested, and has proved an entire success, good pictures having been taken in iifteen seconds.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. For photographing-purposes, an apartment or room, having its interior of such a curved form as to reflectand concentrate the rays from a lamp, or other liglit,`upon the person or objectto be photographed, substantially as shown and described.
2. The opening c, in the room or apartment A, for the purpose ofadiusting the camera outside of the room in proper position with the person or object to be photographed within the room or apartment, substantially as set forth.
3. The employment of magnesium, when used for illuminating-purposes, in connection with a room or apartment A, constructed in the manner or form as shown, and for the purpose specified.
lVitnesses: GEORGE K. PROCTOR.
