UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH S. STULL, JR, AND CHRISTOPHER P. BERKES, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
PEN-WIPER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 6, 1906.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, J OSEPH S. STULL, Jr.,
- and CHRISTOPHER P. BERKES, citizens of the United States, and residents of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved PenWViper, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates particularly to improvements in devices for wiping draftsmens ruling-pens, the object being to provide a device for this purpose that will be simple in construction and by means of which the pen-points may be quickly and thoroughly cleaned of ink at both the inner and outer sides and more conveniently than by employing the usual cloth.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a penwiper embodying our invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view thereof, drawn on an enlarged scale; and Fig. 3 shows one of the fasteningdisks employed.
The support for the wiper is conveniently made of wire and comprises a yoke member 1 and a spring clip member 2, designed to en-' gage over the edge of a table, drawing-board, or the like. The upper ends of the yoke member are provided with bearings 3 for a shaft 4, having a finger-piece 5 at one end.
Mounted on the shaft 4 is a wiping-disk 6, and also mounted on the shaft on opposite sides of the disk 6 are smaller wiping-disks 7. These several disks are of any suitable yielding materialsuch, for instance, as a fabric having sufficient stiffness to maintain their proper form. The wiping-disks are secured by clamping-plates 8 9, consisting of suitable metal, and, as here shown, the clampingplates are concavo convex. The plate 8 may be secured to the shaft and the plate 9 loose on the shaft, and each plate is provided with inwardly-turned teeth 10 for engaging in the wiping-disk.
In operation the pen-points are passed over the main disk 6 and between said main disk and the disks 7, and by giving the device rotary movement the ink will be cleaned by the disk 6 at the inner side, and the outer side will be cleaned by the disks 7.
A pen-wiper embodying our invention will last for a considerable length of time; but it is obvious that new wiping-disks may be substituted for old ones at any time it is desired.
The disk 6 is preferably formed with a plurality of straight edges, as shown, because the pen can be more easily drawn over the points.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A pen-wiper comprising a support having means for securing it to a table or the like, a shaft having bearings in the support, awiping-disk mounted on the shaft, and having a plurality of peripheral straight edges and clamping-plates on the shaft and engaging at opposite sides of the wiping-disk.
2. A pen wiper comprising a support, means for attaching the support to a table or the like, a shaft having bearings in the support, a main wiping-disk mounted on the shaft, smaller wiping-disks mounted on the shaft at opposite sides of the main disk, and means for clamping the several disks together.
3. A pen wiper comprising a support, means on said support for securing it to a table or the like, a shaft having bearings in the said support, the said shaft being provided with a finger piece, a main wiping disk mounted on the shaft, smaller wiping-disks on the shaft at opposite sides of the main disk,
and clamping-plates on the shaft at opposite sides of the disks.
4. A pen-wiper comprising a support con- 'sisting of a yoke and a fasteningclip, a shaft
